"I think it was primarily the Tesco Express stores they were closing. So the high street might recover some if this is the case. Although I feel for those that will loose their jobs. " They are only closing 18 express stores

Anyone who is a member of private pension scheme probably is an indirect shareholder in Tesco and dependent on Tesco for dividend income . Tesco generally treat staff well , there is a staff discount scheme , a share incentive scheme and a generous pension one as well.

"The two things i've never understood with Tesco recently. Why do they hold such little stock so they have so many out of stocks, and why do they waste their time bringing forward the stock on the shelf each day to make it look pretty?. I've been in to my local store and pretty much anyone who isn't on the till, is pushing all the stock to the front, including all the managers. " It's a well known practice with all business to 'face up' the shelves when stocking is running low. Technically, staff aren't being sacked, but will be offered other positions where available, which could be 60 miles away! ![]() ![]()

"They were converting a local pub into a Tescos express at the time this announcement came and it has become a One Stop whatever that is" . One Stop are owned by Tesco.

"Call me cynical but I smell a rat... First they open small subsidised shops driving independent sole traders out of business and destroying high streets across Britain. Then when the competition is destroyed they close the small shops maximising profits, wonder how long it will be before the other major grocery retailers follow suit?" . I fail to see how Tesco can be blamed for driving sole traders out of businness or destroying high streets. Shoppers choose where they want to shop and no one was compelled to shop at Tesco. If the independents were as good as some say they are , they would still be in Businness.

I am a multi national company who is limited by legislation so my opening hours on Sundays are limited and I am restricted in my expansion into high streets... So I open small loss leading shops on high streets that circumvent the laws that the restrict on my business driving my competition out of business. (Of course my shareholders take the hit on losses while I drive my competition out of business, so I don't loose.) Then when I have bankrupted the competition I close the loss making stores... Of course you cant see how any multinational business would either do or have something to gain from that... ![]() ![]() ![]()

"They were converting a local pub into a Tescos express at the time this announcement came and it has become a One Stop whatever that is Tesco's bought up the one stop chain a few years ago So how do they afford to carry on if they are closing other expresses?" Because One Stop isnt their trademarked name so the can use much higher prices on products in One Stops than in Expresses as Express stores carry the Tesco name so need to keep to their price promises so basicially put its a money making con.

" lets assume all the other landlords in your area or one sole landlord with big pockets decide to drive you out of business and they set a lower rent than what you can afford to charge to maintain your property/service any loans etc.. how long do you think you would last before you have to lower rents to stay competitive.. then they all go a little bit lower.. once you are in trouble and have to sell up, they buy you out and they can increase the rent to what they can get away with or what the market allows.. its the same with the multi nationals companies and tesco has been acting the same way for decades..
