We often read that if you are experiencing a problem with a company, utilities, phone, insurance etc and seem to be getting nowhere then using social media to name or shame often achieves better results.

Is it true and has it worked for you ?

Its a quicker way than going to the press as people used to do.

O o O oo

A close relative had a problem with a car insurance company who hadn't sorted out a problem for weeks...she opened a Twitter account, posted on their Twitter and the problem was sorted within half an hour.

So technically not name and shame but it shamed them into doing something by highlighting the bad Customer service

I started a fb group highlighting the failure of our local council in keeping the roads free of potholes, over 12,000 people joined. I ended up on numerous radio shows inc radio one, live broadcasting on the bbc news from the house and a slot on the one show too.

Had meetings with the council and got a lot of thanks for getting work started on the worst of the roads.

Clacton-On-Sea, Essex

I ordered and item that was delivered by a private courier - it didn't arrive, I emailed the company and they didn't respond (I gave 3 working days for a response)

So I posted it on their public facebook page with my order number asking why it had not been delivered on time. They deleted my comment, and still did not contact me.

So I posted again publicly asking why my comment was now deleted and stating that if they didn't like the negative appearance then perhaps they should contact me. (Provided my order number and situation again)

10 minutes later they had found my phone number and rang me with some excues, 24 hours later I had my products.

It worked in my case, although it was my last resort - I normally would say it's pretty petty but sometimes forcing their hand is the only way =/
