I know people need jobs and someone has to do it but these fuckers infuriate me.

If I want them, I will ring them.

I thought the government were stopping all of it?

The worst are the pre-recorded ones, if you listen to all the message it will tell you what number to press to stop the calls in future but even so.

Priceless!!

I used to ignore numbers I didn't recognise. Now I always answer - just so I can use the 'number block' iphone facility.

Quite often they ring you and ask you to confirm your details.

They already have them.

I'm a bit sad

I've gone to the trouble of recording some background music on my ipad

I answer the call, ask them to hold as I will be right with them, then cue the music

I have no idea how long they hang on but it amuses me

Just sign up with the TPS and ask the callers to remove you from their database. Make sure you always opt out to 3rd parties receiving your details. Can't do anything about scam calls though, apart from blocking the number from calling.

It's a bit mean wasting their time as they're probably paid minimum wage and assessed on reaching targets.

I do something similar...

I'm registered not to receive them so when I get calls I ask whoever to hold on as I have a kettle on...

Put phone down by TV or radio...

Wait about 2/3 mins come back to phone, they are usually still there...

Speak the make knocking sound, and say someone at door really interested please wait and put phone down again...

3/4 mins later come back...

My record so far is about half an hour before the line went dead...

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I've had a few lately asking for someone random a Mr or Mrs someone who I know hasn't lived here, at least not in the last 20 or 30 years. It's always a different name they ask for, so it's not a dodgy direct mailing record being sold.

When I say they have the wrong number they say, "Oh, I am sorry. Are you the property owner?".

Great way to ring a random number without knowing who lives there and try to start a sales discussion.

It varies how I handle it, depending on what mood I'm in.

Sometimes I say I'm not interested, ask them to remove me from their list (assuming they have one even, and aren't just using a random number dialler), and hang up.

Sometimes I tell them I'm with the police forensics department, investigating after a gruesome murder and start quizzing them on any records they have on the house occupant, where they got the number etc.

Sometimes I say no, I'm a tenant. Since they are usually trying to sell something to the owner, they're not interested in talking to me.

Or I say I'm the maid and the owners are currently busy hosting an orgy. Or I'm the receptionist to a Dominatrix who has someone a bit tied up at the moment.

I also sometimes try to sell them something in return, usually some sort of training. "Oh what a rubbish job, having to cold call people. Say, you know I provide IT training which would guarantee you a great job anywhere in the world. My rates are reasonable..." etc. etc.

TPS can't regulate the calls from outside the UK either, which a lot of them are.

Thats cool!

I used to have a greenpeace collection tin that when the god botherers and professional charity collectors came to the door I would pick up and ask for a donation...

None of them knock on my door now...

You could try asking if they have a Credit Card and can you have the number so you can charge them for your time!

That usually gets them to hang up

tps makes no difference as all that happens is your number is logged and sold on to the next lot of people scam calls do the same they log the number as working and then sell it on to the next clients

cold calls are annoying more so when they have disturbed what you are doing

ive been very nasty with them and i can insult at high speed as i didnt asked to be cold called in the first place the samsung i have has one hell of a list of blocked numbers already and soon i will end up blocking with held numbers as this is the way they go through the block list

The TPS DO NOT sell your number on. All legitimate direct marketing companies are required to cross reference their databases with the TPS before starting their campaign. You are also allowed to ask where the company for your data from although most will ask you to do it in writing so many people don't bother.
