I've never been before and got to go in a couple of weeks, can anyone tell me how far the train station is from the centre and what the centre is like, not really after buying anything just a mouch round and anywhere nice to go for lunch that's not too pricey. Thankyou

There is a taxi rank right outside the station that'll bring you into town for about a fiver. Other than that it's a ten minute walk.

train station is not far from the centre but the centre is not especially attractive, unless you're a big fan of concrete...

Coventry was pretty much flattened by German bombs in WW2 so there's very little left of what would have been a really attractive town. Having said that the pedestrian part of the centre has all the usual shops and food outlets.. plus there are one or two half-decent pubs, some decent indian and chinese restaurants, etc. anything specific you want to find or know?

Stay at the Remada hotel, there's an amazing Turkish kebab house(not your usual type) which is a little pricey but has some great grub. Goes down a treat especially after a meet.

If you think Coventry is the worst, you've never been to Port Talbot.

If you like small, independent shops check out Fargo Village (up Far Gosford Street) but I suspect I'm probably too late.

The ring road is ace, you're just crap drivers.

Or at least it was, until they started 3 sodding years of roadworks on it.

My ex was terrified of the ring road, but it's no biggie for me. I just use it and get off when I need to. I have lived here most of my life, though. I'd love to close it off and have a race on it.

Diamond, been here 50 years, cov city council just about finishing off what the Luftwaffa started 75 years ago!!. This place is nothing to shout about believe me, to quote a local band, "all the pubs are being closed down...". Enjoy your stay, and enjoy going home! X

The centre is nice..near Selfidges etc

Coventry centre is an utter dive

haywards heath

Originally from Cov and still go back from time to time.

Main station is about mile from of city center& easy to jump on the bus down to the bus station or town center . Walking head for cathedral will take you to the centre, old and new cathedral worth a look and also Godiva statue. Food wise head. Down towards pool meadow the bus station, lots of nice places to eat (including the old fire station) . Many of the restaurants have glass floors to show the extended cathedral ruins uncovered during the rebuild of the center about 12 years ago, original cathedral was bigger than St. Paul in London . You also have the motor museum down near bus station if have time to kill and the free art gallery up near the cathedral

Have a good time

I think some were planning for you to be there till your birthday D. It's a few years since I walked and cycled from the station to city centre, and it seemed close and not a stretch.

I'm going to research dining options and will get back to you.

Please let me know if you'd plan a Lady Godiva moment, as I can have a horse waiting.

Cov is alright, born and bred here.

It's got it's faults like any other city but on the whole it's a nice place.

The ring road isn't that hard to navigate. It's just a two lane road with slip roads dropping you off at various points

Not much help to the OP but Earlsdon High Street is quite nice - we have a couple of decent pubs, a juice bar, nice independent cafes, two great off-licences, ice-cream parlour, organic shop, etc - and not too much concrete!
