Silence vs background noise

Bradford

Which do you prefer?

My friends think I am weird, because I prefer to sit in silence. Right now the only sound I can hear is me typing.

I think this comes from having 3 kids who like to kill each other or have the tv on as soon as they woke up. But ever since I moved out 2 years ago, I just love peace and quiet.

Hereabouts

I'm sat in my room and all I can hear is coughing from downstairs. If it gets too irritating I'll stick some music on

In the middle

Peace and quiet for me too, I am quite comfortable with myself and don't need to fill the rooms with noise. I do love music though and will pop my headphones on to drown out the noise if I have to

I depends on the background noise really.

For example nice summers day, windows open and you can hear the birds chirping. I'd rather that than silence.

Background noise here - the radio goes on as soon as I go into the kitchen to put the kettle on in the morning and stays on until bedtime

Not loud but not quiet either

Equally peaceful is reading at night and you can hear the rain.

Stormy weather is awesome. Heavy rain, thunder in the far distance. Best background noise

I'm easy going. Last night I was ill, browsed on here for few hours after work whilst lying in bed, in silence. Other than listening to my housemates trample up and down the stairs.

I live next door to a bunch of fuckwit chimpanzees who spent hours every day tantrumming then got a dog and left it howling for 6 hours a day...omg just die already... so no such thing as peace and quiet for me, and music is always on in the background.

Come from a big family anyway so used to noise, just i hate aggressive noise like door slamming and arguing. My kids are all chill so lucky me.

I love silence, I used to have to be up and gone before the anyone in the house, and I'd just get up and sit in silence on telly on radio nothing and eat my breakfast, now I'm up the same time as everyone else and they put the telly on straight away drives me mad

If I'm off work, I tend to potter, around in silence. Or I'll put music on. Usually a bit of pink or ellie Goulding

I prefer some kind of noise. I like falling asleep to music or a podcast.

If I don't have any stimulation, I'll just zone out and lose a few minutes and I hate that.

I love the quiet. At night it has to be quiet and dark I can't stand the sound of a ticking click, but don't mind the rain.

The sound of waves on a seashore at night is one of my favourite sounds or the trickle of a water feature

Oh fuck yeah. I lived in Portsmouth for 2 years and I lived right by the shore. Summer mornings and the waves crashing was amazing

I love listening to all the sounds I never normally notice when it's quiet (probably why I am a natural night owl). True silence is disconcerting; I've spent time in various soundproofed rooms and an anechoic chamber and the chamber was a horrible experience.

Silence is golden lol

Nature has some cool background noise though,a babbling brook, the wee birdies singing away or the sound of the wind howling n heavy rain when you're all cozy with a book in front of an open snapping, crackling and popping fire indoors

Peace and quiet, I never have the downstairs television on, I go to bed if I want to watch something. I've never understood having the television on just for the sake of it
