"When in Sainsburys whenever I ask for help or am saying thankyou at the check out I always use their name. Most of the time they look at me baffled. But what is the point of having a name badge if you get upset at people using your name. " lol thats what made me think.. i used someones name and they looked at me like i had 2 heads

"Do you ever get spun out by people who call you by your name? I used to wear a name badge and would find it slightly unsettling when people would address me by my name when i hadn't introduced myself to that person.. Could be in the minority of course :D " Yeah, it makes me smile though as its a nice surprise! I get asked or comments made quite often though as my name isn't very common.

"I worked for a supermarket years ago, who decided it would be 'public friendly' to wear first names on badges. I was never happy, I was happy to be identifiable and accountable, but I felt to whom I gave my first name to was my choice. I have an unusual first name, and we used to have a man who regularly tried to engage with female staff. One day he said 'Oh, looked at my badge and repeated my name, you wouldn't be difficult to trace'. I had my name badge changed to Mrs such and such, after much arguing with management." I believe you are not required to use your real name. You can put any name that you choose. Obviously it has to be sensible. You can't have a supermarket full of batmans or johnny cash.

"I don't wear a name badge but my name goes on official, legal letters. Some take it upon themselves to try and add me on Facebook which unnerves me somewhat but it also helps me in certain cases with investigations and have caught a few out via Facebook (as long as their profile is in the public domain) I usually decline friendship requests and block them " My name normally goes on the paperwork we give to staff along with names of other managers and supervisors and we all get that a lot, I have to decline so many facebook requests from our voulenters...I'll have briefly met the most of them but don't 'know' them really and probably won't meet them many more times...I still always feel mean declining though. Half the reason I shut my first facebook account way back when was because I had about a thousand 'friends' on there....most of whom a barely knew.....

I think that our voulenteers all think we're 'cool' cos they're mostly younger students, many from events management and music related courses who often use us to gain some experience or a foot on the door of the industry, they think the events industry is way more glam than it really is and I suppose they're just networking as it were

When I was about 17 I had a random stranger significantly older than me turned up one evening at work and hand me a letter with my very unusual first name on (thanks to my name badge)and inside declared undying love and professed to having watched me in store and leave work before and wanting to 'get to know me better'. He had specified a time he'd be waiting for me after work, knew when I'd finish. Thankfully being a close knit workplace the guys went out when I finished and had some very specific words(no violence involved!!) and thankfully I never saw him again.he may well have been lovely and just very shy, but it Was rather unsettling though, knowing id been watched.

"I hate name badges. .. You have to lower your vision down to their boobs and I always feel compelled to say "I'm totally not casing your tits"..." I teach on courses, knowing none of the candidates on most, and yes, the majority are female ... So hard not to, but sometimes a good excuse ...

"I am meant to wear one but don't as I come into contact with a lot of odd people, dont like them addressing me by my name and freaks me out that they can Google my unusual name and find out my address. Have suggested to my manager that I have a badge with my job title and a number so if there were any complaints I could be identified" Surely you can put any name you like on the badge.

"In pretty much every job I've had I've managed to lose, burn, leave in a drawer and generally evade wearing a name tag. I've no real problem with being identified, but just don't care much for the principle. All of the staff know who I am and when management get a complaint about someone saying 'ey up me duck, are you all reyt?' to the president of a sister company, then they'd know it was me anyway. " Or someone telephoning to enquire about misplaced ordinance.

"I refuse to wear mine in my building. It has my full name on and I work with high risk offenders. I will happily wear it when I visit other locations or home visits, but not in my building. I had an argument with my line manager over it, so took it up with her line manager. And won. So no one has to wear one if they don't want to. " I turn mine around so people can't read it in these circumstances
