Is there too much pressure on guys looking like models these days?

Bit vague, but I don't think there is anymore "pressure" than there is for women.

But there is more choice of pickings for women on a site like this, so I suppose there is some degree of pecking order if physical attraction is your game.

Personally though? IF I was a single woman (I'm not...) I prefer my guys a little cuddly with some imperfections but amazing personalities that make me feel like the luckiest girl alive, Which I am, 'cause I already found that guy 6 years ago

Depends if you read all that of whether your happy in yourselves, same as for women. Only you can put yourselves under pressure if you want to live up to a media stereotype. Thankfully its never bothered me and I don't read all these glitzy magazines

Definitely. Women don't drool over the average Joe. Whereas a woman can be fairly average-looking and still get loads of male attention.

Didn't think so

Almost certainly less than there is for women to look like models.

Why do you ask?

This is probably true, but any woman who knows she doesn't look like Angelina Jolie will realise that she can't just assume the male hotties will be beating a path to her door. We have more realistic goals.

Be honest, most men drool over hot women. Do they assume they have a chance?

I think the pressure for men has undoubtedly increased. Things like increased use of steroids, more men with eating disorders and so on seem to indicate this too. It's not the kind of equality I'd want though, it would be better if women felt like they weren't under pressure to look a certain way, rather than men joining them in feeling inadequate

Actually this is unfortunately true!

I am somewhat of an average joe admirer, and there is a close friend of ours I very much like the look of whom all our other friends just go "Eww why" - so narrow minded =/

Then again, I've always liked an underdog

Doesn't matter, women having the upper hand in rarity, means they can call far more shots with regards to the kind of guys they want to meet. Both males and females can be picky if they choose, it's just the guys are gonna be waiting a lot longer.

Compared to the pressure on women, not at all. But it is amusing to see the young (and some not so young) guys at the gym desperately trying to achieve the six pack that women are supposed to drool over.

If you're insinuating that women don't exercise, look through the door of a swimming pool, aerobics class, Pilates or yoga lesson and you may find the gender balance restored. (Or maybe don't, in case they think you're a pervert.)

There's an awful lot of pressure these days on young people to look good full stop.

My son is very body conscious and has been for a while, he's naturally slim but he now makes sure that he stays that way.

There's gyms, and there's gyms. Mine is the local University gym and I assure you there are just as many women as men there. Maybe not as many at the free weights area, but there are some (inc me ). And blokes go to the fitness classes. One in my abs class today.

Returning to this question however, consider reading 'The Adonis Complex' sometime, it gives a fascinating insight into the decline of modern masculinity, and ties into the state of affairs on this site perfectly.

There's too much social pressure for all genders imo to look 'perfect' and we would be better without it. I'd prefer people to look good from their own desires.

^ this!

I appreciate it when a guy, or a woman, makes the effort to look good, particularly when it's clearly a lot of effort over a prolonged period. However, there's a lot more to attraction than how people look, for me, least.

Sometimes someone fairly 'average' looking can blow me away with their mind, or their spirit.

SB can't get laid and has to make far more effort than he thinks is reasonable. He believes it's easy for the women on here, we don't have to make any effort and we sit back and let a queue form.

As per the comments above, exercise is also unfair and men have to work much harder than women and have to grit their teeth and get red in the face.

There are too many men on here competing with SB and that's not fair either. Nor is the lack of women that SB fancies.

How are women rarer? (Outside of fab and nursing homes - which was my point.)

Ah pardon me, I must have been thinking about the gym - guys vastly outnumber women there too, for some reason...

If you're insinuating that women don't exercise, look through the door of a swimming pool, aerobics class, Pilates or yoga lesson and you may find the gender balance restored. (Or maybe don't, in case they think you're a pervert.)

Do they grit their teeth and turn red in the face from their exertions in these classes?

I go a deep shade of purple and sweat profusely - that good enough? Now stop with the sexism - or i'll stop hankering to get in your underpants!

It's not sexism, it's me having the brains to formulate a viewpoint, and the balls to voice it and defend it afterwards.

Any man who can't/won't do that isn't worth hankering for"

The brains to formulate what comes across as an extremely sexist viewpoint, or possibly not enough brains to realise that it's extremely sexist.

"Is there too much pressure on guys looking like models these days?

Women have been under pressure to look 'perfect' for centuries! Welcome to equality!!

Ah, equality! Does this mean the number of women are suddenly going to go up several thousand times over on the site then?

Didn't think so

I think the question was about the real world. Outside of fab and nursing homes, the numbers are quite equally matched....

Doesn't matter, women having the upper hand in rarity, means they can call far more shots with regards to the kind of guys they want to meet. Both males and females can be picky if they choose, it's just the guys are gonna be waiting a lot longer.

No, it's you being bitter that you think women get such an easy time compared to you. You're wrong. You might realise that if you could see any view other than your own.

Besides, I've not seen you provide any evidence that far more men exercise than women, or work harder, or get sweatier.

How long does the average man take in getting ready for a meet? They need to shower, perhaps shave and dress. Women spend hours, defuzzing, choosing their outfit, doing their hair, their makeup, their nails... We spend a small fortune on perfume, lingerie, makeup, hair salons...

I can't even begin to imagine how you'd moan if you had to do that lot, or even the stuff most women do on a regular basis in order to look good.

I honestly don't know why you continue with something that seems to make you feel so hard done by. This isn't the only way to meet people, you know.

I think, so long as you don't let yourself go to rack and ruin, all this super model and 6 pack stuff is mostly rubbish.

I'm no Adonis, if I ever had a six pack stomach it's definitely more like a party 7 seven these days but I still only go out with women who are gorgeous. And they are not all skinny models either.

We are all a lot better looking than we think and a lot more attractive than we think. The mirror may not lie but your eyes and mind do. You may notice the small fault but what most will see is what looks good, right and nice.

I don't think I've ever seen such a bevy of handsome, good looking, gorgeous or beautiful people complaining about how un attractive they are. It almost makes me laugh.

I think people are just in general getting forget and healthier, so the baselines and expectations change.

Those who've always relied on being fitted and more sculpted have to work harder to stay a tied who've the norm.

You really haven't got to grips with autocorrect on your new phone

Why would anyone want to get to grips with auto correct when there's other things so much more fun to get to grips with on this thread.

Erm, fitness and exercise has recently progressed beyond lifting rocks and other heavy objects.

So don't think you are speaking for all men there!

Thinking of my real world male friends, they're happy with themselves. They're not models, but all have elements I love about them - even the ginger beard currently sported by my best friend.

I always like the part in the film Good Will Hunting where Robin Williams says about his dead wife :- Little things like that. Those are the things I miss the most. The little idiosyncrasies that only I know about: that's what made her my wife. Oh she had the goods on me too, she knew all my little peccadilloes. People call these things imperfections, but there not. Ah, that's the good stuff.
