Unregulated sperm donation

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

There was a programme on R4 this morning about sperm donation.

The unregulated market is growing.

Two men (both in relationships and doing this secretly) spoke of their tally. There's a bit of a league table going.

I was really quite shocked at the whole programme: both the women using unregulated sperm as they can't afford to pay for sperm (how are they going to afford a child?) and the men spreading their sperm around a relatively small area.

The chances of half-siblings meeting and falling in love is much increased.

why would they pay for sperm if they can get it for nothing though, the money could go towards the baby.

"why would they pay for sperm if they can get it for nothing though, the money could go towards the baby."

I see that point. If that is the case I don't understand why they don't just pick someone up in a bar and then have nothing more to do with them.

The payment ensures the donor has been tested, the sperm is as risk free as is practicable and that the child has a way of finding the donor, should they wish, when they turn 18.

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

If you are using a reputable NHS clinic, and have a medical requirement, there is no charge for sperm... well at least not up here.

We looked at it when I was trying to conceive my 6 year old.

Didn't sperm donating go down when they brought it in that the child would be able to contact the donor at 18

"

Yes, which is why the unregulated market has grown. An undesirable but totally predictable outcome.

I normally work through whatever I am listening to but I actually stopped typing my report and sat there with my mouth open.

Some are. Others want full sex as payment.
