"So it received 6 oscar nominations last week and i watched it last night. A gritty, hard hitting drama and Bradley Cooper is excellent in it, Clint Eastwood has gone from acting legend to Directorial master ! Certainly gets the thumbs up from me " I've heard it's an awesome bit of cinema from people who've seen it, will have to check it out

"Clint is producing some of his finest work in his twilight years....." Absolutely, he just seems to instinctively know where the camera should be etc, Gran Torino is one of my fav movies and he doesnt disappoint with American Sniper. Based on fact as well which makes it even more hard hitting ! Another good movie is Lone Survivor which i expected to be another glorified american war movie but was actually very good The two characters from each film actually met in real life at seals training and became good friends !

"Really enjoyed Lone Survivor, I'm halfway through reading the book at the moment." Is the book close to the film ?? I thought Mark Wahlberg was really good in it

"The book it's based on is dreadful! He comes over as a racist, Texan, redneck, yeehaw, with no compassion for his victims and no concept of the reason he was there in the first place! It's just a long litany of his kills, how they deserved to die and how awesome the Navy SEALS are. I'm guessing Clint and Bradley Cooper 'Hollywooded' out a lot of his more unsavoury character traits?" Wow thats interesting to hear and to be honest he doesnt come across that way as such in the movie, although thinking about it there are hints of it. Its kind of a shame to hear that as the film was really good, so if thats what he really was am a bit disappointed now lol

"very good and based on true story think birdman will clear up on the night check out whiplash best supporting actor and gone girl " Boyhood will probably win Best Film; based on it's uniqueness, rather than it's qualities as a film (it's fairly dull, to be honest!) Whiplash is brilliant but too 'indie' Grand Budapest Hotel is too quirky and 'European' Gone Girl just isn't very good after the first hour or so. I can't believe that Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get a nomination for Best Actor as his was the most brilliantly intense performance I've seen all year.

"I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It's a brilliant film, very gritty and hard-hitting and it also raises a lot of moral issues. I get the feeling people will be divided over whether Chris Kyle was a hero or a butcher. I personally feel that he showed his humanity after he left the SEALs but his actions during his service were questionable and unnecessary. Lone Survivor was awesome, the book is even better. I think it was good because Marcus Luttrell supervised much of the film being made (he's actually in several scenes) and most of the extras are, themselves, SEALs. Much of what really happened to him isn't in the film and they don't really tell you about his injuries. He was shot 11 times in the legs alone and broke his back in 4 places as well as numerous other injuries. Yet he still managed to crawl 7 miles up and down mountains!" Wow thats amazing ! Might have to read the book as really enjoyed Lone Survivor, gonna watch it again later

"Apparently Michael Moore is not very impressed with it and had some rather strong words regarding the film and it's subject. " He said something along the lines of "all snipers are cowards" because his father or grandfather was supposedly killed by one. Michael Moore is an astronomical prick anyway so his opinion matters very little.

"The mind boggles at the skill to deliver a shot over that distance, imagine the multitude of factors that can affect the flight of the round. " My best shot is slightly over 1200m (deer hunting in Scotland). That was also with the AX-338. There's a lot to take into account making a shot like that, far more than you'll see in any movie. Angle to target. Elivation. Humidity. Wind. Earth rotation. Spin-drift. To name a few. Most importantly though, what's behind the target if you miss!

You wouldn't believe how much a .2g plastic BB hurts when it hits you travelling at 400fps!

"Not knowing the facts behind the film, as I viewed it, I was very emotional, to my view that was because of clints excellent direction and bradly's portrayal Although based upon a true story I felt it was being used as a poignant commentary , rather than a story about a particular man ? " I think Chris Kyle's story and this film highlights many moral issues and also makes a statement about what Americans consider a hero to be. Was he a hero because of the people he killed? Was he a hero for the number of lives he potentially saved? Or was he a hero for the people he helped (and there were quite a few) after he quit the SEALs?
