For those that have got them. Do you think you can be as close to them as your own parents?

I don't think so. I couldn't as my well ex in laws don't speak English n I don't speak Turkish. When I go to stay with them its all pointing n guessing while I pick a few things up here n there x

My ex hubby's mum was a horrible old cow, no wonder he didn't like her much. So no.. I would never of been close to her.

Even ignoring the fact I've not spoken to my own parents for years I could nevrr be as close to someone else's. Truth be told I wouldn't want to.

My late mother in law was a lovely woman and I still visited after we divorced. I'm still in regular contact with my 2 sister in laws and the niece and nephews. I wouldn't say I'm as close as to my own but I'd still drop everything if any of them needed a favour

I got on OK with my ex mil but she was more like an old grandma as she had my ex husband late in life and was old-fashioned where as my mum was the opposite, so although I got on OK with her she would never have been like a second mum

My parents don't even know J exists

As for his parents, let's just say it's probably for the better that we remain 40 miles apart and maintain radio silence

So yeah 'in laws' are a bit of a contentious issue in this household

I wouldn't say i'm as close with my mother in law than i am with my own mum, but i think that's because we don't see them very often. I do look at her as my second mum though and my father in law i would say i'm definitely closer to than my own dad. I can't really remember the last time i saw my own dad. He's an arse! I couldn't really ask for better in laws

My mil didn't speak to me until I was pregnant with my first child

Once she did take the time to get to know me akd I her,I found her adorable and she loved her grandchildren

I wouldn't have ever felt the same for her as I do my own mum though

Bedworth

I had a good relationship with my ex mother in law and ex sisters in law. Unfortunately ex hubby's nice took our separation hard so we no longer have any contact.

I'm very lucky to also have a great relationship with my fiance's mum and step dad too. His relationship with his dad isn't as great, hence neither is mine.

I haven't been lucky enough to have the type of relationship my dad had with my maternal grandma though. They loved each other to pieces and he called her mum. When she passed away he was just as devastated as my mum was

My ex mother in law hated me she always felt that I was just after her son for a green card and his money..I had my own money and disliked living in the states

I was really close to my in laws before I split with my ex. In fact I'm going on holiday with my kids, my ex and his dad in a few weeks! I never used to be close to my parents at all until the past year or so. My mum's had cancer and my dad has been a huge support since my marriage break up but previously we weren't close at all.
