My mother in law refuses to be called anything other than grandma. She says all the others make her sound old.

My Mum had 6 Grandkids and refused to be called any of those names, they called her by her first name.

Haha it was an age thing, I reckon she was 40 when she became a Grandparent for the first time.

I had a Nan and a Gran. Grandma was the posh one.

I dont like any of those.. my mum was Mama dont think that is age specific really

Grandma is perhaps the oldest sounding I spose because that is what I used.

I think nanna or nan sounds younger than gran, granny etc.

Im going to be a grandad for the first time next month, unfortunately there is no younger way to say grandad.

My female grandparent on my dads side (higher class family) was called Grandma by all, but my mothers common as muck family are all Nans.

My mum and mother-in-law are both referred to as Nanny by the boys as they both say Grandma is too old fashioned and posh lol

"My mother in law refuses to be called anything other than grandma. She says all the others make her sound old. "

thats what my Grandma says too..

its confusing for my daughter i think as i call my Grandma 'Grandma' and my daughter also calls her 'Grandma' (not great grandma)... and my mum wants to be a 'Grandma'

its funny when i chat to my mum and my daughter then calls her 'mum' then corrects herself and says 'oops sorry Grandma'

Only ever had one set of grandparents and they were always called Grandmother or Grandfather, although to be fair they weren't young anyway - in their late sixties when I was born.

There is, he is called Gangan, didn't want to be called Grandad. I'm Nanny.

Not bothered whether they sound old or not, it's just what we are now.

Looking back, the number of Uncles we had was amazing.
