We saw this for the first time last night and loved it.

Josh Weddon directed which I think explains a lot as I love his work and the casting also seemed very clever.

Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner are particularly delicious to look at too! Lol

I have read/watched various Marvel Superhero related things before but now find myself with a desire to delve into the comics with proper purpose. Can any fans point me to a good place/ point to start?! The sheer number of material is rather overwhelming!

It's a great film, and I am sooooo glad they are calling it Avengers Assemble.

Calling it "The Avengers" winds me up, as I am a big fan of the 60's tv show staring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg...

Mark Millar's "Ultimates" series was clearly a big influence on the recent Marvel movies in style and storyline: it covers similar (but materially different) themes leading to the formation of Nick Fury' s team of super soldiers, and indeed introduced the idea of Fury looking just like Samuel L Jackson! Some very adult themes covered also (domestic abuse for instance) very cleverly..

Definitely the place to start if you enjoyed the movie, there are several other books in the ultimate line which tie in and are great reads, plus there is far less history involved so.they are easy to get in to. As for the marvel universe version check out the avengers runs by Brian Michael bendis and the current writer Jonathan hickman, both of which are superb. If you want to try any other books or characters just inbox us and we'll point you in the right direction. Shame you don't live nearer - our house is like a bloody library lol!

Very very true. And the movie serenity too.

It can be daunting starting catching up on comics as there are decades of material to look at. However there tend to be offshoot series that you can look at and also graphic novel sets which will tell a full story and can often stand alone. If you get stuck on characters there is also a marvel database online that will tell you everything about a character or group.

Check out the marvel ultimate graphic novel collection, it's a two week partwork collection, although it's about 70 odd issues in, you can pick em up on ebay. Will save you trawling through comic shops for back issue comics and story runs.

It's a really good fun film, in fact most of these Marvel fims are!

Last Summer, here in Norwich, we had Robert Downey Junior, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans filming at one of our more impressive 'modern' buildings (we do have some!) for the next film.

Film will be called Avengers: Age of Ultron, and a clip of some of the filming is here:

Bugs favourite was 'Hulk...Smash' I think lol

Mine was a toss between Captin America and Thors forest stand off and Hawkeye when he first gets up on the roof

Reading based media predominantly for me and cinematic for both of us Svelte.

Vin Diesel plays Vision in the next movie and Ant Man is being released so these characters will join up sooner or later.

I did read somewhere that the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy team up to finish of Thanos who is both their enemies.

Its kind of shorthand for what's happened over the course of avengers history, the line up will change over the next rotation with the events of avengers aou, cap civil war, antman, guardians 2, black panther all building to infinity wars. Well see new avengers and old ones leave the team

Just apologise for the formatting.

Although this universe doesn't completely stick to the comics (that's a good thing, to be fair) - I don't think Ultron's origins will be a hindrance to the story. In the cinematic Universe, it completely makes sense for Stark (and partly Banner) to create Ultron. Having an unknown entity such as Pym introduced and explained for this story would be a major, major job.

HOWEVER, that's not to say that Ant Man isn't related in some way. Stark is thought to be resurrecting an old peacekeeping program & its possible Pym was involved in that? We don't know yet, however. Besides, Agent Carter and the second part of SHIELD will expand on this story a little, so we shan't be going in blind-eyed, I think

Scarlet witch is coming in the next avengers film this year along with quicksilver. Ant mans film is later this year and the wasp is also due to feature so I'm lead to believe

Its the approach to the subject as much as the subject itself that signifies geekdom. Specific topics carry more weight but usually its the desire to immerse yourself in the world and information surrounding the stories, oh and getting ridiculously excited about things involved in it

For Marvel it has to be the Marvel Ultimate series. More of a modern/serious/gritty re-look at the whole Marvel Universe. The Avengers stuff is the best in it but Ultimate Spider-Man is very different also.

But general comic book stuff you have to read Watchmen. Every superhero comic book ever written after it has been influenced by it.

Fingers crossed for more Hulk in the 2nd installment.

Hero is a great film and I've seen it through naughty methods. It's also based on marvel characters

There's nothing wrong with a full on geek out, my daughter went to convention years ago when she was about 4 and saw danny joules (cat from red dwarf) and started shouting and waving at him, not because shed seen red dwarf but because he was on her favourite kids show! He was so pleased to have such a young fan that he gave her a load of stuff for free.

I think every geek has a four year old jumping up and down in excitement

I'm not saying that every geek has a four year old child, that would be quite a hard thing to keep up and monitor

Lol... Four year old are awesome for inducting into the world of geekdom(however your perceive it) they remind you to just let the joy out!

Slightly off topic from avengers but following on re 'geekdom'... Our kids love cars( and motorsport),scalextric,trainsets,books,cooking...to name a few.some through our interest and some from expressing their own. Our eldest is just beginning show more interest in Transformers. am a firm believer in children having hobbies and interests.

Kids need to have a hobby I think I have had a hobby since I was 10 and I still enjoy it and admit proudly I'm a geek/ nerd through and through

You're right there, I started when I was that sort of age with transformers and then various other comics, its a great way to feed their imaginations. My kids could recognise iron man before a square!
