I use hun, sweet, chick and a probably a few others without even realising...to me it's being affectionate. I get called similar names in return...in fact I'm rarely called by my actual name at work, but I don't see any harm in it.

Hunni I can cope with, and I do use sweetheart and sweetie with people I know don't mind it. Everyone else I tend to use their name... novel idea isn't it? lol

I'm guilty of using love, sweetheart , treacle and a few others. Never used Hun but it's not a common one around here. All men are called mate. The one I can't get used to is pal. Everyone seems to use it in Scotland. Even waiters. It's sounds so menacing "are you enjoying your meal pal". It's like they'll headbut me if I'm not.

In everyday life, I use a lot of loose terms if familiarity and affection.

If I was meeting with someone, I would avoid them at all costs.

In business, I avoid using using them but am often addressed as mate, pal, bud etc.

I am easy with it unless, I find, they are used by somebody I don't like

Óinseach is for females

But yeah hate hun and pet. A mate constantly used both, all of our female mate hate being called either cause of it. But she literally used them with every sentence in her texts!

One person calls me Big Nose. He's allowed but no one else better try.

I don't like first messages on here addressed to babe, hun and baby girl (this last one seems to be on the rise - as I'm neither a baby or a girl it annoys me).
