Finally got round to changing my insurance to specialist modified insurance gone from £1600 with Churchill down to £1150 with Adrian flux

Give them a call they do all types of insurance you could save a fortune !!

Skoda Octavia, £187 fully comp, protected no claims.

Did get a call from More than, saying they could lower our premium by as much as £350, but when I said okay, they hung up!

I'm with Adrian Flux.

I can't use the big players like Direct Line etc because they don't cover any cars that are out of the ordinary, so I have to use specialist companies for my car.

That said, my car is currently off the road due to rear axle failure just before Christmas and i'm tooling around in a hateful Toyota Yaris (that belongs to an elderly Aunt who is currently in a nursing home. You could say I'm looking after it for her )

My insurance renewal is in mid April, but I shall be sticking with my current insurer as I'm hoping to get the car back on the road in time for Summer.

Taking the opportunity to sort a few other little jobs while it's off the road.

The highest I have EVER paid for car insurance has been around £650 - but not on this car. In fact, as I recall, that figure was for a 2.2 Litre Turbo Diesel people carrier, not the 3.8 Litre American Sports car I've had for nearly 12 years.

My advice is, if you want to lower your premiums, buy a Yank

Seriously. When I switched from a Ford Probe 24V to the Firebird, my premiums fell significantly

Ironically the Probe was a vehicle developed for the american market - but as it was eventually officially offered here in right hand drive there were more of them on the road.

Insurance premiums are calculated on a number of factors - many of which have absolutely nothing to do with you or how you drive. One of which is how many of the particular vehicle you drive are on the road and how many have been involved in accidents.

Yank owners tend to fall into the 'enthusiasts' bracket and are therefore, as I have been led to believe, considered to be more careful. Combine that with the fact that most of the different vehicles could be considered 'rare' there are fewer involved in accidents.

I had a mate who started driving a 5.0 litre Pontiac Firebird 3rd Gen (that's the Knight Rider shape) when he was around 24 years old - and the insurance didn't cripple him. He still has the car now - and yes, he did the full Knight Rider customisation - even been autographed by the Hoff himself (and yes, I've met him) and has it insured at an agreed value

Certainly worth a thought at least

I pay less than £250 for my Mini Cooper S. The joys on being in my mid 40s

Saying that Adrian flux are great for anything that's not the normal.

For example if you require cover for off-roading in 4x4 etc

Grey imports

American motors

Modified

Classics etc

I tried to get "normal insurance" on a Toyota starlet glanza import which was declined to even offer a price

Found Adrian flux through recommendation from guys i know in modified car groups

Mine cost about £890 third party for a Nissan Micra K10 1989 and he same for a Vauxhall Corsa..

The bigger the engine the more it costs. I would stick to a 1.0ltr until you been driving for more than a year or so!,

For 10+ years I used to have a company van . The company paid the insurance, the policy was in my name.

18 months ago I switched to a private car and regardless of what I did I lost my 10+ years no claims.

It cant be transfered - what a bag of shite

I passed at 17 and had to stay as a named driver on my mums policy...only way to get insurance anywhere near affordable, it was a 1.0 Peugeot 107 and cost about £1200 to insure.

Which is why I've only got 2 years no claims - still I'm happy with the price ive got now with modified cover
