What a chuffin waiste

seams to be a theme on the supermarket brainwashing & power!!!!

I hate supermarkets!!!!!

So why dont the supermarkets take the not so purfect produce. Sell it for half the normal price. And let us as customers decide whats good enough. Id like to see the sales figures at the end of the week.......

Saw a bloke from Hieneken on the breakfast news. He said that they have to meet the demands of the supermarkets. 'they're too powerful to ignore'

they also influence planning / politics & funding

it's not the governments that contrlol this recession!!!!!

It was a really interesting show. I can't get over the food that's wasted. Got me thinking though - what came first? Us demanding perfect fruit and veg or us being presented with it then growing to expect it?

I went to a market in France the other week, the veg was nobbly misshapen and so damned delicious and whats more kept.

I have just finished today carrots and potatoes bought almost two weeks ago

i watched a programme once where banana's were thrown away because they were too ripe when they were still green!!

tons of them were thrown away then used to heat some big greenhouse place in norwich i think

how can they be too ripe if they are not even ripe????

on the flip side...i know of a local supermarket that decided to donate their "sell by" but not out of date, still fresh food to local charities,as well as those tins which are dented but perfectly intact...they contacted several local charities who were more than thankful for the donations and asked when the supermarket could deliver the food...the supermarket said "we don't deliver,you come and pick it up"....the charities declined the offer saying no delivery,no thanks!!

Two local girls have been feeding themselves almost exclusively out of shop and supermarket bins for a couple of years now.

It's not just food they find. Occasionally there's bottles of wine where the label has been partially torn or a bottle of spirits where the presentation box has been damaged.

In other places they'll find things like sets of coloured pencils where one out of the set is missing and the rest have been binned, 4-packs of china coffee mugs where one if cracked and so on.

The stuff they can't use themselves or barter with others goes to local charity shops.
