Titz Towers, North Notts

I was listening to a bit of Sid James on the wireless earlier and it struck me that whatever I've seen him in, he has resolutely remained Sid James all the way through.

Who else would you class as being a one note actor and don't all shout out Steven Seagull

True - and I was thinking that when I posted - but I think it was his only deviation from his norm! Xx

The one that has always got me was Sean Connery

But here's the interesting, and perhaps most endearing thing about him.

Despite the fact that he always speaks with the same accent etc, and is undoubtedly 'Sean Connery' he remains believable in whichever role he's playing.

Take, for example, his role as Captain Marco Ramius in 1990's The Hunt For Red October where he plays a Russian Submarine commander with a Scottish accent.

Or how about his role as Dr Henry Jones in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where he plays Indiana Jones' dad - with a scottish accent

But completely believable in both roles

Barbara Windsor. Hugh Grant. Danny Dyer. To be fair it might not be their fault. You can't always be in a position to choose your roles to get to show your diversity. Can't see Babs and Danny "Malcolm" Dyer in Romeo and Juliette though.

Don't forget Zardos. I'm shuddering at the thought of that now.

I doubt I could watch it. The title alone is off putting enough.

It's not at all like the title suggests. It's about an irish fellow being befriended by an English chap in borstal and their ensuing relationship. Dyer acts very well in it and it's not at all like his normal roles.

Don't agree with MIchael Caine though, he's played some brilliantly diverse roles over the years, particularly as he's got older.

Saw him at the comedy store in Manchester. He did two sets, one stand up, the other as Otis Lee cranshaw and his band. I'm sure he's Moe's son from the Simpsons.

Did he play a slightly awkward, upper class Englishman with one face expression (a look of dull disapproval) by any chance?
