Agree only that it is a Rolling Stone list.

I don't even consider the Beatles', and i'm a big fan, Sgt Peppers to be their best, even in the context of the time period it was created.

There are many other albums that i throughly enjoy which probably wouldn't make the top 500.

Strangely, for a 2012 list, it is still full of the important albums of the 60's/ early 70's. maybe "young 'uns" don't read Rolling Stone anymore?

Also, what makes me laugh, is the definitive BBC's "Top 20 this, that or t'other" where even if you wanted to vote, you have to choose from their own pre-selected list of 20 or so choices. Shite process.

"Hang on... Where's Fleetwood macs rumours... Grrrr.. Take out rubber soul replace with rumours "

I'd take out Sgt Pepper before Rubber Soul or Revolver (my favourite Beatles albums by a country mile!)

There were only about five albums on that list that would make my top 100, let alone 20!

Agree with these three. Beatles / Dylan over represented (though I am a Dylan fan and saw live a few times)

Biggest selling Album ever? Eagles Greatest Hits not on the list? Love em or loathe em it's an odd list without it.

Only one (thriller) out of the top three selling albums ever make it a discredited list?

If album sales were a key critera would you be happy to see Nana Mouskouri in the top ten?

Thought not.

Eagles Greatest Hits is exactly that; a greatest hits album...they're usually precluded from best albums ever lists!

I don't think it's discredited for only having one of the top three best selling albums, it's discredited for being a bit shit and predictable. Where are Stevie Wonder's seminal run of 70's albums, for starters!

I too prefer WYWH but it was not the watershed album the DSOM was and of course DSOM was in the charts for getting on for about a million years.

Is this a best album from the last century? Only nevermind is representative of 'recent' bands? The list is rather aimed at rolling stones readership rather than a definitive best of list. For starters what about Radiohead? Coldplay? Oasis?

For the most part it bores the life out of me these days though I must have bought the bloody thing about ten times over the years: original vinyl, CD, MFSL Gold CD, SACD surround sound version, the re-release that included the Alan Parsons quad mix that I'd had a bootleg of for years anyway (and sounded no different), the 180g vinyl from the same re-issue program...and probably a few others I've forgotten!

The Flaming Lips re-imagining of the album and Easy Star All Stars reggae version are the ones I go to these days

Much of this indicates our ages...I see nothing contemporary....I'm sure some younger people would add somethings. I agree with most suggestions. Is a list based on the best albums...or best because they best influentially...rumours is an a1 album...but not very consequential...I'm old...jd...unknown pleasures..kate bush...kick inside....are a couple of mine...

I think there should be a place for either Public Enemy's "it takes a nation of millions to hold us back" or NWA's "Straight outta Compton" on the list- both those albums changed the music industry in the same way that "Never Mind the Bollocks" had done over a decade earlier

To be honest music is about personal preference. You buy and listen to what you like. Lists put together by music journalists are in my opinion egocentric... How many people look at these lists and say what a great album it is even if they have never heard it just to follow what is deemed cool ..

Although having said that Dark side of the Moon should be on there...

Nope, completely disagree with that list. In fact there is only one album in that Top 20 that I would agree with.

Thriller.

Can't stand Elvis, Dylan or Lou Reed - so Velvet Underground is out.

Appreciate the Beatles, but not a massive fan.

Why no Pink Floyd, ELO or Dire Straits.

How come Madonna didn't make the list.

My personal favourite Album EVER is Michael Jacksons Bad.
