Bradford

I understand that Mars is pretty close to Earth and MAY clearly be seen in the night sky along the Moon giving the impression of a double moon on the evening of 27 August 2010.

Was a beautiful full moon last night so it could be true. Not due again until the year 2287 or so. Don't miss it.

It reminds me of the last time i saw a double moon, whn the ex ( bbw ) sat reverse cowgirl on my face.

This is an email hoax. Mars can never appear the same size as the moon as it is so much further away.

In fact, in August of 2010 Mars appears as a modestly bright star in the western evening sky. Mars was substantially brighter earlier this year, shining most brilliantly when Mars came closest to Earth for the year on January 27, 2010. Even so, Mars looked like a bright star, with nowhere the size or brilliance of the full moon. The only time that Mars “doubled up” with the full moon this year was on the night of January 29, 2010. But as seen from earth, Mars’ diameter was 1/140th the diameter of the full moon. In other words, you would have had to line up 140 Mars side by side to equal the diameter of the moon.

That just doesn't bare out to logic, since everyone knows that Werewolves come out on a full moon, and Mars is a Planet; illuminated or not...

If you look up to the moon tonight, look to the bright object just below and to the west (left) of it (a compass position of South West/SW).

That object is Jupiter, and it will get brighter and brighter in the night sky as it heads towards its closest approach to Earth in 12 years sometime next month.

Do not look for Mars alongside the Moon though, you will be disappointed, because Mars can NEVER appear as big or as bright as the Moon due to it's size and distance from us.
