Never book Ryanair unless it is absolutely the best deal for you, considering everything. I went to Stockholm for £35 but luckily checked where the airport was before i set off - 90km from Stockholm! The taxi would have cost £100 each way

I fail to see why Ryanair should be liable for your security fee. If they did pay it for you the cost would be added to the flight so you'd be paying for it anyway.

In my experience ryan air is only any good if you are doing carry on baggage.

If you are having to check in bags it is sometimes just as cheap flying with BA(if your booking far enough ahead).

You know what you're going to get with the likes of Ryanair or Easyjet.

Treated like cattle

But you get what you pay for. I have paid £75 for a return flight to Spain in August. For a short flight like that I can cope with Ryanair

I've flown many times with Ryanair. Never had a single issue with them. Online booking works, I only have carry on baggage and if I pay an extra tenner I get the front seats! Who can complain at a return flight to Rome for £33?

Absolutely spot on comment. Ryanair would not be the biggest carrier in Europe if they were not doing it right.

Hate Ryanair, there accident reporting practices are shocking and where they do everything in a rush accidents happen regularly, anyone remember the time they crashed two aircraft together on pushback? Safety is a greater priority than speed in my opinion

Booked last week and no problem. Just click on the "one way only" box and a new calendar for the return flight should pop up

There is an express bus service from Skavska to Stockholm and Sodertalje. Did one return once getting a train from Sodertalje to the nearest station and getting the taxi from there to the airport. All relatively cheap.

I still wouldn't use the bar-stewards if I can possibly avoid. Given that I usually have to check in a suitcase and a toolbox it's usually better for me to book early with BA!

Very true. I even managed (once)to get one flight where BA business class was cheaper than Ryanair and BA traveller class once you factored in the excess baggage!

I have never flown with Ryanair and I dont really intend to. I hear lots of negatives and it would just worry me, id rather have peace of mind and travel with another airline.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Flew to Seville with them. Never again. Despite the cheapness the unpleasantness of the experience meant that I felt just as stressed coming back as I did going out.

I'd rather pay more for better service.

Never had an issue with them ... or Easyjet ... or Jet2 ... or Monarch ... or BMi Baby (before they went west).

For the types of holiday we prefer (euro city breaks), they offer the ideal product

Choose your outgoing flight date first, then click on one way. It will then open up the calender and you can choose your return date.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Well I've booked them to Venice and home from Rome, because my Italian friend said it was the best deal and she uses them all the time. It will be my first time with them though - I usually fly Easyjet. If they're better than Jet2 then I'll be fine. Jet2 are appalling.

" If they did pay it for you the cost would be added to the flight so you'd be paying for it anyway. "

This would mean that the "Price" that they charge would actually reflect the cost of traveling. They (as do many) like to advertise their "pretend" prices to get customers, then when you've completed the booking there are a number of un-avoidable extras. These should just be added to the price and the actual price advertised.

So what was unpleasant? I struggle with comments like this because I don't find anything at all unpleasant about Ryanair.

They just take the bullshit out of flying and in my opinion there is nothing wrong with that. You still get a comfortable leather seat with more leg room than a charter flights. You get to take two pieces of hand luggage on board and if you fancy a wrap, or a coffee, or a beer - they will serve you one. Apparently in November they carried 6.3 million passengers and arr,set to double in size over the next five years having just ordered 200 brand new latest generation boring 737. Must be doing something right.

Considering the they are the largest carrier in Europe they have an impeccable safety record - as indeed does most of the UK fleet generally.

Why should any airline pay your security fee? That is a fee levied by the airport on you, the passenger. The cost of a flight is just that, the coat incurred by the airline in getting from A - B.

Blackpool airport used to charge a development fee to every passenger using the airport. Ryanair pulled out because of it and Jet2 would not pay it either.

You may not like Ryanair, but blaming them for not paying a fee that is levied by the airport on you is not a particularly relevant reason.

What are the unavoidable extras? Last time I booked (last week) if you paid by debit card, you paid the advertised price. You can choose allocated seating, priority boarding, luggage, extra luggage etc etc - none of these are necessary.

The best low cost we have travelled on was Norwegian.

They fly to a few places from Manchester, but have quite a hub at Gatwick. They fly all over Europe from there, not just Scandinavia and Gatwick is one of the bases chosen for their 787 dreamliner flights for long haul destinations.

We used them Berlin to Barcelona and both really rated their product.

Easyjet does have a young fleet at just over 4 years old as an average

Ryanairs average fleet age is 5.5 years

As a comparison, British Airways average fleet age is 12.4 years, Lufthansa 11.2 years, KLM 10.8 years and Air France 11 years
