It's related to HPV. It's a common cause of cervical cancer, but it's too late for most women to worry about it. The vaccine is relatively new.

If she has regular smears it is very unlikely! I'm currently being monitored every 6 months, so any further changes will be found and treated when necessary.

Don't get me wrong I was worried when asked to come in for my first worrisome check up, when any changes will be detected quite early on

its the woman receiving oral sex not giving it that can lead to cervical cancer.

Hpv can cause oral cancers, penile cancer, cervical and vulva cancer and anal cancer

Where are you getting your medical hypothesis from OP?

Wikipedia?

From the NHS website.....

Some types of oral cancer are linked to human papilloma virus (HPV) infection in the mouth and throat. Find out the possible risks of this infection from oral sex, and how to protect yourself.

Rates of oral (mouth) cancer are rising. In England, 6,056 people were diagnosed with oral cancer in 2010, up from nearly 5,500 in 2008.

Oral cancers are sometimes called head and neck cancers, and include cancers of the mouth, lip and tongue, as well as cancers of the tonsils, oesophagus, larynx (voice box), nasopharynx (the area that connects the nose and throat) and the thyroid gland.

What causes oral cancer?

Experts have known for years that the main risk factors for oral cancer are drinking alcohol and smoking or chewing tobacco. But there is growing evidence that infection in the mouth with HPV is a major cause of oral cancer.

Around 25% of mouth and 35% of throat cancers are HPV-related but the exact figures vary between different studies, possibly due to different ways of testing for the virus or varying levels of smoking and other risk factors.

Detecting the HPV virus in a sample of people who have oral cancer does not mean that HPV caused the cancer. The virus becomes part of the genetic material of the cancer cells, triggering them to grow.

How do you get HPV in the mouth?

There are more than 100 types of HPV, and around 15 are associated with cancers. These 15 are known as high-risk HPV types.

The types of HPV found in the mouth are almost entirely sexually transmitted so it's likely that oral sex is the primary route of getting them. The high-risk HPV types are also passed on through vaginal and anal sex, and are linked to:

cervical cancer

vulval and vaginal cancer

anal cancer

penile cancer

laryngeal cancer

tonsil cancer

Some can be passed on through skin-to-skin contact and cause warts, including genital warts. The types of HPV that cause visible warts are low risk and are not the same types that cause cancer.

Most sexually active people (about 90%) will have been exposed to either high or low risk genital HPV types by age 25, but only 2-3% of these people develop visible genital warts. So most of us have been infected, but few are affected.

Like most here, we will protect ourselves as much as possible but sometimes, shit just happens.

The only true safe sex is no sex. There are many triggers that cause some cancers, does that mean we should stop doing anything that 'may' cause an illness? Of course not.

I ride motorbikes because they're exciting but there's a chance I could be turned into a greasy streak in the road, will that stop me riding a motorbike? will it fook

Unfortunately its not always our fault. I started getting smears at 18, as did everyone else my age back then. I couldn't understand why Jade Goody wasn't diagnosed with cervical cancer until it was way too late for her until someone told me they changed the age of starting cervical smears to above 30 . It's now been reduced to 26 (I think) so better than it was but not good enough for the younger women who might be prone.

No, I don't worry about it.

I get regular smears and other appropriate check-ups.

If I worried about everything that could kill me, I'd hide in a bunker 24/7 and never do anything. And even then I could still develop cancer or a myriad of other illnesses and conditions.

its never worried me, I think I would of got it by now because of what I got up to when I was a teenager, that was when there was no herpes or hiv around like there is now.

I do know of a lot of women who have got or died from cervical cancer who were married and had kids, I think having kids can cause it because after you have had a baby you have to have a smear test and quite a few women find out they have it then, same as breast cancer. I always have all the test done that are available, lucky so far.

Cancer is quite a common illness though and not something that's easily avoidable.

It might have been that which caused the cancer in the OPs friend, but not necessarily. Hope the doctor didn't tell her it was definitely that!

There's been a story this week saying that getting cancer or not is largely due to luck, albeit health plays a part.

If getting cancer is down to bad luck then the whole world is getting unluckier every year for the last 20 years

I think it's such a complex set of issues from diet, environmental issues, plastics, lack of exercise, lack of proper cooking ect but at the end of the day the average life expectancy is going upwards and children born today are extremely likely to reach 90-100

I will still love teasing and licking a smooth juicy pussy however I will make sure I have regular GUM swaps done, otherwise you can pass the HPV virus on to woman when your performing oral on them and the last thing I would wanna do is increase a woman's chance of getting cervical cancer

If only science could come up with barriers that are undetectable when used for oral. Condoms in penetration are virtually undetectable - except for the lack of creampie. Those dental damms do take away the tongue on pussy sensations although the lady might well still enjoy?

Are there any condoms which really have no taste? Latex and lube on condoms must be an acquired taste for the ladies giving "safe" blowjobs.
