According to people who do these types of research, here are the most popular words.... Although and # are not words......

1. The heart emoji - the symbol for love is one of almost 1,000 in use

2. Hashtag - the reformed pound sign (#) which often gets topics trending on Twitter

3. Vape - referring to vaporising, the practice of using an electronic or e-cigarette

4. Blood Moon - the blood red appearance of the moon caused when it enters the earth's shadow and captures the sun's red rays

5. Nano - can mean small (1 billionth of a metre) or refer to the type of technology

6. Photo Bomb - breaking into a pre-arranged assemble for a photo

7. Caliphate - a form of Islamic political leadership

8. (White) privilege - The alleged advantages of having lighter colored skin in a diverse society.

9. Bae - term of endearment for an object of desire

10. Bashtag - use of a hashtag to undermine people you do not really like on social media

I didn't use words 7, 9 or 10 in 2014. I did use 8 to ask what it was. May start saying bashtag to annoy my best friend though, he'll hate it.

I use the words off and fuck not usually in this order when talking to my work mates or knobheads as i like to call them.

The word i've heard most in 2014 is "No".

Occasionally combined with "thanks" but not always.

Regarding 8. I can't believe anyone can still call white privilege 'alleged' anymore?
