The land of grey peas and bacon

Now I'm a dog lover but I'm not a lover of some owners. Walking back from the shop and out of an alley ways comes a rotwelier that was built like a brick shit house...thought nothing of it until it went for me...I'm so glad it was on a lead or I would of been its breakfast. All the owner said was "sorry she can get in funny moods sometimes". No shit!! All I could say was you have to becarful it could of been a child...I think that dogs needs anger management classes.

I do believe that it's not the dog that is dangerous but the people that own them. I've never had a dog proper go for me before and to be honest it scared the living crap out of me...

I am not a dog lover, I manage to be friendly to dogs in ones and twos with their owners. My friend has a 12 stone bullmastiff that is as calm as can be, he shares the couch with me, nibbles my ear and generally adores me, definitley the owner makes all the difference

You really should consider letting police know what has happened, what if it does get hold of a child. Hope it hasn't put you off

This. I once reported a dangerous dog that terrorised the neighbourhood. It went for me and kids saw it and were scared. It could have been them next.

The police thanked me. They knew of the dog but hadn't been able to press charges as the neighbours were all too scared of the dog owner to make a formal report.

Hope you're ok Cheeky, it's scary and shakes you up. xx

Some guy with a german shep had it on one of those dumb extender leads in the local park. I went round it on the grass a few feet and it was startled and went the wrong way. . I stepped on it's paw by accident as i tried the scoot out of the way. . No real harm done but the owner called after me 'is there anything else you want to do to her ? ' I turned back and calmly walked over . . 'sorry what was that ? ' so we precede to debate the matter while his dog is up on it's back legs snarling at my face. He was trying to say sorry while at the same time suggesting I should give dogs a wider berth . I reminded him that kids use this park and he was the one on the paved section. If your dog is easily startled. .walk it away from main pathways. Wombat

Just taken the dog for a walk.

Two kids one maybe 3 or 4, the other 5 or 6 out walking a staffie cross

Not an adult in site

I am gobsmacked at how naive or downright irresponsible someone could be to let 2 kids that age out with a dog on their own.

They were having a hard time handling it as it was.

If it, or indeed any other dog, decided to get a nark on, them poor kids would have no chance of controlling it.

God that's terrifying.

You're absolutely right that it's the owner who is the problem. Dogs are animals and no matter how much a part of the family they are, they are unpredictable.

I used to have a mastiff, the biggest, most gentle teddy bear you ever saw, but she was always muzzled when walked. She never said boo to a goose and never gave me cause for concern but weighing in at 9 stone if she had decided to go for something/someone there was literally f-all i could have done about it. So i took what i felt were appropriate precautions. And dealt with a fair few "oh that's cruel" comments too!

im a snob when it comes to how well a dog is trained.its not difficult to train a dog, all you need is patience and a basic knowledge of canine behaviour.

My dog is super well behaved (border collie,hes sooooo clever) but ffs some dog owners have zero control over their dogs ,it really really pisses me off

its usually the same dog owners that don't scoop the poop,,their not really dog lovers at all and lack respect for others,lazy bastards too.

train the dog OWNERS

Did it have contact with you or was it held back and controlled by its owner

When I say controlled, I mean was it held back on its lead and not allowed to come near you or contact you

I am a dog lover and have to agree with you, that it is the owners that cause so much hassle with their dogs.

Saying that even the most placid dog can go for someone, usually there are tell tale signs giving the dogs intentions away before the event.

I had an issue with a rottweiler in a school field. I was with my younger sister and our border collie, we had finally tired the dog out after an hour and a half of running her around a field. On the say to the gate a rottweiler off the lead came running towards me and the dog, what annoyed me more was there was 2 kids the oldest must have been about 12 were with the dog no adults. I managed to deal with the situation without anyone getting hurt as the dogs were facing each other off. I got home and reported the kids with the dog to the police.

After my op last year we had a slow walk down the park, this dopey looking dog came running up and jumped up me, it wasn't trying to attack but bloody hurt my stomach the owners reaction was it was just being friendly keep them on a lead

All a good idea, but its not the dog loving responsible owners that are the problem, chipping can be done for free if people watch places like "pets at home" for the free offer. So it doesn't come down to money, as for Dog behaviour that's a matter of training and control, another owner issue... but all dog owners seem to get tarred with the same brush because of the irresponsible ones.

My point is that by having a mandatory framework for control and enforcement, would help to minimise irresponsible ownership.

I think all dogs should be registered and a sample of their DNA taken. Then when there is dog shit in the street you can find out which dog it belongs to and post it back to the owner.

Doubt it would have much effect with some chavvy dog owning scum. It's a legal requirement to have insurance for a car but look at the number of uninsured drivers

sorry should have stated it wasnt on a lead and ran at my daughters pram jumped up, i pushed it down it bit my leg lol hence why i booted it

I have two dobermans, called stig and bloor, stig is the biggest at 9stone and both have been brought up to understand that any form of aggression won't be tolerated, which means they are a pair of sweetie pies I trust them implicitly and can read them l I've a book, they are not the best trained dogs but follow all my commands when off their leads, but then I live on a private road that faces a nature reserve so they are always out the way and arr almost never on leads.

im a big believer in digs are not humans no matter how much we like to treat them as babies. Of course the likely hood a badly done dog will attack but that doesnt exclude the fact they are animals. We had a dig as kids thaf loced everyone but put another dog near him he'd take ya hand off to get to it. Too many people put 'way theyre brought up' over fact theyre a bloody dog lol

Thanks god they're not human. Apparently, statistically a child is far more likely to be harmed by their own parents than a dog.
