RUGBY

It's not happened recently but a few years ago I was meeting a couple on a regular basis and arrived in a few yrs old car.

Inbetween meets I'd been invold in an accident and bought myself a cheap little Fiat until insurance paid out.

On my next meet with said couple they asked me to move car and park round the corner!

Jeez! I often have meets park on my drive as it's big enough for 2/3 cars and as I'm in a tiny cul-de-sac it keeps things clear for the neighbours. I've never bothered even looking at their cars/vans. Just confuses me as to why anyone would.

And that does sound ridiculous, are you sure it's not because of practical parking or road limitations?

I haven't come across it, I'd say my car is average really though. I'm fussy who I meet so I'd like to think snobs or overly materialistic people would be avoided. Sure it's just bad luck mate!

Did they say it was because your car is 'old'? Perhaps they just didn't want the neighbours commenting on how they had yet another male visitor at night.

Or there may be an issue where vandals were snapping aerials/ breaking mirrors in their street, and they thought your car would be safer off that road.

Your car may have leaked oil all over the drive the first time you parked there in it. I'd ask you to park on the road too if that was the case.

It may of been a discreet issue

I know when I first moved into my last house I thought I was being very discreet when bringing people around only for my neighbour to comment as he was moving out about how everyone down the street had noticed all the different people coming and going from my house

I travel on buses and trains quite a bit and very rarely find them dirty or smelly unless it's very late at night!.

However in my experience you find alot of people with brand new cars have a brand new car because they haven't got any actual money, they just buy everything on tick!

We do know he missed out on an enjoyable evening (I think it is safe to assume that as it was a return visit) all for the sake of being asked to move his car. I think this is one of the very rare occasions when the phrase "his loss" may be appropriate.

Erm so many to reply too. It had never leaked oil as it was the first time visiting in the old car, when I fist started meeting them we did discuss about what neighbors would say about different cars being on the drive, they were ok with it.

We did speak afterwards and the husband admitted the reason for asking to move was the old vehicle on the drive.

I know a few people just like this. I was with 1 for a number of years.

To look at her on the outside, great job, nice car (paid for by the company though), lovely barn conversion home (that is mortgaged to the hilt), designer bags and shoes and make up, holidays 2,3,4 times a year.

Not got a pot to piss in. Eats out at her mums or with friends cos she can't afford food to put in the cupboard.

Banks and businesses chasing her for money every day.

At first I thought the 'fuck the gas bill, but ooooh look at them £200 Chanel sandals' was kinda funny until I noticed it was something much deeper.

Everything is pretty much superficial and materialistic.

But hey, to the unknowing, life looks fabulous dahhling : and that's all that matters

Yes exactly I see it alot as a self employed gas engineer, and it's one thing you struggle against is British gas who can afford to offer credit and usually get the job over me even though I might be 600 quid cheaper they just don't have any money, I worked for a couple only last month earned 100 grand between them lived in a 600 grand house all the mod cons, top bmw and Landover cars but couldn't actually afford the £375 bill to fix their boiler, they were really nice and dead honest and said they couldn't pay till end of month when they got paid, it used to amaze me but I see it all the time last ten years.

I would have done too.

My car is 19 years old this year - i've had it just shy of 12 of those years - and have no plans to EVER sell it - in fact, my 7 year old son wants it when he's old enough (by then I should have got my next one, lol)

Mind you, as some may note from the couple of pictures of it that are on my profile, it's not a run of the mill vehicle.

Sadly, it's currently off the road due to a major fault that developed on the Sunday before Christmas - i.e. the rear axle exploding.

Have a little 4 year old run around courtesy of an elderly relative to keep me mobile, so I can take my time sorting the beast - as there are a couple of other jobs I want to get sorted on her.

Bit of an assumption that they wanted you to move it because it was an old car. I'd say you put two and two together and made five... or just made up this little story.

They could have gossiping neighbours, you could have had a small oil leak, you could have had a petrol leak, they may not have wanted to advertise that they had visitors as a close friend family may have been driving by etc etc

Actually not a Trans Am. Just a basic Firebird.

Trans Am was actually a 'Trim Level' of Firebird

Much like GL, LX etc

But I do plan on getting a TA - in black

To be perfectly frank, I'm sticking with Yanks - won't go back to European stuff - and hate Japanese. Can't stand the little thing i'm using at the moment - but it's a set of wheels and better than nothing - especially while I get my business off the ground.

I can't fault the reliability of my Firebird. Remember, it's 19 years old. Things will wear out in that time due to wear and tear.

Especially when you consider that all vehicle manufacturers design their vehicles to last 10 years - not 20.

I read his OP and it said nothing about because his car was old and in fact following on he said that he just drove home. The addition of the comment someway down the thread about it being because it was an old car does not stack up with the earlier comments.
