Braintree

I just have to share my little story as im actually close to crying. On the road where i live there is a parade of shops at the end of a row of bungalows. My house is about 500 yards further down.

About a year ago, maybe just before or just after last new year my cat went out and didnt come back, one particular evening i was walking to the shops past the bungalows when i saw my cat in the window of the bungalow. A little perplexed i knocked on the door and retrieved said cat, seemingly he had made his way into the house one night and the old lady had made him welcome. I sat and had a cup of tea with the lady and found out her name was whinny and she was 84. She had lost her husband a few years early and her daughter had moved to london for work.

For 84 she was fit as a fiddle, had all her marbles and would have passed for 65 or 70 easy. So all year from then on i always say hello to whinny if im walking past and she is sat in her chair in the doorway. i hadnt seen whinny for a couple of weeks until tonite, as ive just been to the shops i saw whinny in the front room with a candle in the window, i waved and she waved back sort of asking me in.

I knocked on the door and whinny opened it and told me she had had a power cut. I said she couldnt have as the neighbours lights worked. Quick trip to the kitchen, fuse box sorted, all lights restored. She has just thanked me so so much for such an easy job im lost for words.

If you really want to cheer her up get her a kitty of her own.

Check she is ok with it first tho, maybe take her to the rpca see if you can adopt an older cat, a kitten maybe hard work for her

Or give her your cat.

Nice story tho.

I dont think she needs to. Im fairly sure every night when i let my cat out he goes there anyway lol. I thought about getting her one from the rescue centre but i dont know her financial status or wether she could look after it continously if you know what i mean

what about adopting long term then all the bills are paid for, lots of older cats need a loving home.

I know I've gone into crazy cat lady mode lol

What a wonderful story, so great to hear of someone looking out for their elderly neighbour. You're probably right about your cat too, most cats tend to have more than one home if they can get away with it.
