2015 get fit and healthy thread..

So the new year is upon us and a few threads have been running about diet and exercise, going to the gym, muscles and such like.

So here is the official 2015 thread for posting your weight loss, goals, achievements, weight gains if your trying to bulk up, or anything else food/fitness related.

I'll start.. On September the 8th this year I weighed 12 stone 10.5 after a tough 6 months where I basically comfort ate. As of Monday this week I weighed 10 stone 7 & 3/4. Which is about a 30lb loss give or take. I do 3 exercise classes a week, body conditioning, pump and piloxing and go to the gym twice. I will be starting Insanity on Thursday. Yikes!,

My goal for the next few months is to plod on with the weight loss, not sure of an ideal weight but once I'm a comfy size ten I'll be happy. Also want to start lifting heavier so if you need me you'll find me at the squat rack or doing deadlifts at the gym...

Good luck to everyone with all their fitness goals this year..

I'm the heaviest i've ever been, this year i am starting back at the gym.

I was a fitness freak 15yrs ago and was at my best condition ever, circumstances changed and it wasn't possible to go as much.

I'm 16 stone and classed as morbidly obese...... No one wants to be that and I'll be losing at least 4 stone. That's my goal.

Wow....well done You're looking great I must say.

This year I'm going to carry on going to Zumba classes. In January as my instructor is doing 4 classes a week for £30 that's what I'm doing plus I'm aiming to get back into running. Before Christmas I was 8st 12lb which I'm really pleased with as at my heaviest I was over 10.

Good luck everyone and stay positive

Ok, I'm 6ft 2pm tall and weigh 12.5stone. I'm average build. I don't eat meat. I would like to have my muscles a little harder and possibly slightly more toned. How much protein powder should I drink and how often and what easy at home exercises could I do? I have arm weights. I'm actually a lazy bastard who just wants to look good on the beach.

I'm 4 and a bit stone down from last new year and have about a stone and a half to go. I am going to treat myself to some new lingerie when I get there. Much more walking, since I enjoy it. Just need to get up early enough, which I don't enjoy.

I've been setting myself little targets, I want to lose 1 stone 3lb by my birthday which is the 5 the of march. Then that will mean I will have another 2 1/2 stone to lose which I want to do by September which will bring my total loss to 11 1/2stone in less than two years. I want to be a comfortable size 14

I would like to lose about 4 stone. More important than the number though is feeling a lot fitter and healthier, and getting rid of the lower back pain that's started to creep in which I'm sure is my body protesting at carrying too much weight around.

i am going to keep on running. Have my eye on 3 10k's this year on top of weekly club runs and parkruns etc

My friend and i are joining the gym at work tomorrow in the hope that we will push each other to go and we will go more because we dont have to travel far for it after work!

i know my issue is food, i have many issues with food both mental and physiological (suspected lactose intolerance, insulin resitance, diabetes, and i think i am a salad dodger thats actually allergic or intolerant to salad ) so i need to do a lot of work on my diet working out what i can tolerate and what affects my blood glucose least as well as what wont cause the digestive...errrmmmmmm.....distress () i can experience on a daily basis which i believe stalls my weight loss.

i need some new scales as mine broke before Christmas although that is probably a good thing as i was weighing myself everyday which is not good.

I wouldn't bother with shakes, just have more protein in your diet. Although you'll only build muscle if you work hard too...

Only way to tone is to make muscle grow. That's what toning is. Filling the space with hard muscle. So try and find some exercises that concentrate on lower abs x

Since August through cutting carbs down and upping my exercise, I have now lost 30 lbs. I would like to lose the same again. I'm hoping to do that over the next 4-6 months at the most if I can. Seeing how others are doing always inspires me and keeps me going. Well done everyone and good luck to all those just starting on a new keep fit campaign.

I don't weigh muself but having lost weight this year, I guess there is about an inch to go.

I have targets this year. Brighton marathon sub 4 hour, a tough but not un-achievable aim. A half PB of sub 1.49 ideally as part of the training but if not certainly before the year is out would also be nice

And in September there is a group of us (currently 3, potentially 6 or 7) running the Farnham Pilgrim marathon - a hilly trail marathon. That;s going to be about surviving not a fast time!

I am 16st 7lbs at 5ft 10inches.

I am 18% body fat, My goal is to hit 15st but get to 12% body fat.

I would recommend if you have the facility to measure body fat that you do it this way. It's a pain to get properly assessed but the best indicator. Most decent gyms have someone who will do it for a fee, even if you don;t belong to it. You may be able to convince your doctor too.

Well done, nearly a 3rd of a lb of fat, or a 3rd of an average sized tub of margarine

I'm trying to burn 1000 in an hour, but I'm around 800+ for now. I managed 500 in 30 minutes a few days ago, but I was dripping by the end so couldn't have maintained that level of effort for the full 60 x

Its the coast to coast starting in Whitehaven in Cumbria to Whitley Bay in Tyneside. Its about 140 miles with 80 of those miles being up hill.

Cut down the high intensity CARDIO such as spin. Your body will adapt to such a regular beasting and hold onto the calories, its a survival mechanism the body has. Do more weights, increased muscle mass will burn calories more efficiently

I'm not setting any goals or keeping track of numbers. It makes me neurotic. Made myself really ill mentally in the past by doing that.

Obviously I need to lose weight and a fair bit of it. But I'll settle for a healthier lifestyle and hopefully as a byproduct of that I'll feel my clothes become looser etc which I find a much more satisfying method of distinguishing progress than looking at numbers.

Together me and my kids are making changes to our diet, upping our veg and fruit intake and being more active. Also when they are at school I'll go for long walks and get back into going swimming a couple of times a week.

Personally I would stick to the exercise bike for now. The lower intensity will burn fat more efficiently than spinning, which will lose you muscle mass at the rate you propose. It's great for getting fit and I use it the summer months for that.

Lots of people seem to have a fair bit of time to get to the gym, or whatever. As I work 60+ hours a week I just don't have time.

Whenever I'm not working it's family time so an exercise bike and physio exercises will have to do me for now.

"I'm going to stop eating cake"

I have no plans to cut junk out of my diet even once I do succeed in losing the weight, another reason why I'm trying to accustom myself to cardio.

I used to write it off, thinking that it was just a way to burn excess calories that you shouldn't have eaten in the first place, but I'm starting to believe in the benefits of a strong heart and lungs, probably because I'm getting older.

I think exercise is definitely the key along with sensible eating but I'd never be able to fit in 3+ classes per week along with the gym whilst working full time with kids.

Maybe I have really bad time management skills, how do other people manage to fit it all in?

I follow a couple of inspirational women on facebook that have lost loads of weight.

One of them posts about her exercise regime and it astounds me. She has up to 7 PT sessions a week. That's a lot on top of work and family time etc. It's also, I would imagine, a lot of money as personal trainers aren't cheap. I keep hoping someone I know will do a course and need a case study or something lol

Well done to everybody so far and hope you reach your goals. I used to be well ripped but due to health issues had to scale back at the gym. Health is on top again so time to get back to it. 6.30 am starts in the gym week days and bit later during the weekend. Lots of cardio and heavy weights. Drop setting till I die!

Wow! Well done you guys!

From September i lost 34lbs but over the last month I've gained 8lbs back.

Back on my high protein plan when the Christmas goodies have gone and not before, as I'm terrible and won't leave them alone. Lol!

Just rejoined WW and I'm about to put the speed/cadence recorder on my bike. Got about 2st to lose.

Mrs JFL likes me dieting/exercising as she loses weight/tones up too...not that she needs to at 9.5st and a size 10 but she reckons every little helps!

To wee in or to drink from?

I always get accused of being pregnant at work when I try to drink more water, because I end up going to the loo every half an hour

I have two more kilos to shift before I can have surgery, but I'd like to lose 7 instead. I started regular swimming in December and I've been on a low carb diet which has helped me lose a lot but that last two kilos is being stubborn.

So today I join fit camp for a month of pain.

"Fit camp...sounds fun !!!!

I have a huge incentive as the surgery I'm waiting for will put the full stop on a lengthy and all-consuming time of illness. But after losing 12 kilos I've been stuck trying to get rid of the last two for about two months now and they just won't shift!

I don't want to go to fit camp, I want to stay on the sofa and crochet and eat quality street. But, nope, fit camp it is.

Agree with you on body fat being the most critical figure to work on reducing. Have been a gym regular for over 2 years, dropped waist from 36 to 33, but only lost 4kg. However body fat went from 18% to 14%.keep up the good work everyone!

I want to lose about 1.5 stone, i'm on the 5/2 and i've bought the lycra. There's swimming and riding organised for this weekend and I've been doing weights at home since before Christmas. At the moment I'm not feeling (or seeing) much of a change but this weekend really ought to be the point at which things start to move in the right direction.

Good luck everyone!

I'm going to look for a pilates class to join next week. I plan to add a yoga class too.

After that, well, I'll see how things go.

I can't afford gym membership or many classes but there are things I can do at home, for free.

I might buy some weights and a training bag. I enjoy weights and martial arts.

I need to quit smoking and lose weight. It's going to be a really tough journey.

I have a condition which has an impact on my energy levels anyway so doing any exercise is really quite difficult for me, so food will have to be the main focus of my weight loss. May re-join slimming world for the support and structure.

Good luck to everyone with your goals. My personal opinion, it's about dedication and getting through whatever your personal plan is, irrespective of the results. Enjoy the activity you're doing, stick at it and the results you want will happen.

Personally, it's P90X round 2, Insanity round 3, 2 10k's and the Robin Hood half marathon for me this year!!

Target for this year get rid of the extra tyre(s) (not too concerned about the actual weight). So continue with the 17 mile cycleing roundtrip comute to work and 8 mile rowing on the canal on Sundays. At least until the evening get light enough and can add 8 mile rowing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well.

However much more imediate, its off to the gym each evening to work in increasing pace on the rowing machines as there is a rowing race in 6 weeks time and I really don't want to come last (That and I need to put improve my core stability to improve my technique on the water )

What method will you be using?

I can do 1000 calories in 50 minutes on the turbotrainer, measuring with a HRM chest strap bluetooth'd to my computer configured to me - but by Christ you know about it! Keeping your heart rate above an average of 150bpm for 50 minutes takes it out of you.

Starting tomorrow. Unfortunately after an illness a couple of years ago I let my fitness regime slide and am now over a stone heavier. So I'll start with fitness DVDs and reduced cal eating, then get back to the gym after the January scrum has subsided.

Me and my daughter are going to get some wright off in time for our mid March trip to Barcelona. I reckon 10 weeks should be a good goal.

Simply, you make time not excuses.

We ALL find it easy to make excuses, to promise ourselves we'll do it tomorrow & then sit on the sofa - going out into the garage on a bitterly cold January night after a long day at work & then tapping out 20 miles/1100 calories on the turbo isn't easy, but you just crack on.

Get into the habit, give yourself a target to motivate yourself, but above all find an exercise you enjoy so that getting fit is a side effect.

For me riding the bikes is what I desire, the fitness just makes it better.

I didn't say it was was easy, I said we make the time. If not make the time then we change our daily life.

Cycle to work if possible, take the stairs every time, walk to the shops rather than driving etc.

As a society we are addicted to the easy option and it shows in our waistlines.

Everyone has time issues, its up to us to decide what to do about it, no one else will do it for us.

Yes I have, She screamed for the first 100 yards then enjoyed the outdoors. Or, as Miss Cheeky Chops says, do a fitness DVD. Some give 10 minute options.

its relatively easy ..if you sit on a bus and it takes you 20 minutes to get out of bed earlier and walk to work ...it might take an hour but your exercise regime is over by 8 am

"Unless there is a way i can get fit and healthy by diet alone i won't be doing anything this year. I don't know how you all find time to do so much gym stuff and exercise.

Ok i work from 7.30 am til 6 pm. I am then mum to my kids until they go to bed at 8 pm. I then log on to work to do my second job for an hour or 2 ....When do you suggest i make time. I thank you i am not making excuses i really don't have the time

"

Ok. I'm making excuses.

I work from home. I'm a childminder. Nearest anything is 4 miles away. While i would happily walk that kids won't. I am not making excuses. I just can't fit it in! !!!!

But you are getting some form of exercise while it may not feel enough it's at least something..that with healthy eating you will be surprised at the difference it can make

My plan is to start back at the gym once I've turned 27 (which is tomorrow the 5th) I plan on going two maybe three times a week. Depends on work schedule. I have zero social life so should be able to spend a fair bit of time in there. Need to invest in an iPod or MP3 player so I can have some music for company. Hate going to gym alone. Haven't been in months so will be like starting all over. And j shall try and attend classes held at my gym. As well as doing fitness at home. This year I'm determined to loose weigh. In sick of being the 'fat' friend. And I hate the way I look in photos. I hate a number of other things so hopefully this time next year I can say wow I've lost weigh. I love this about myself!!

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

After 17 stone loss over the last 5 years... my goal is

Tough Mudder in June (12 miles, obstacles)

Pass my bodybalance instructor module (april-ish)

get back into the gym again properly - I went from 10 hours + per week to nothing after an op at the end of october... back on that now tho, and will build up to 10 hrs per week again over the next month.

Build up my gym clients too - passed my level 2 gym instructor module end of last year.

And to get back into a comfortable size 10 with a more toned tummy again - 2 months has taken a wee toll on the tum!

Then possibly get below 65kgs (I'm currently 69kg) and 5ft 4, although this is not essential as its more about dress size than target weight, and muscle weighs more - so would rather sort out my tone than lose weight for the sake of it.

I know it's hard when you work long hours / full time, have children to fit exercise in. The above sounds like a good place to start tho & you could always add in some lunges & squats (for you not the kids lol).

Are the weekends any easier to fit something in?

Thanks. ...i know. ...Sadly,after I've done the housework at the weekend and taken the kids to football etc i like to spend a little bit of time relaxing funnily enough, doing any form of exercise is the last thingi have the energy or inclination to do. Fuck it. I don't want to be super fit anyway. My life is complete without looking like a supermodel

"I'll be taking another shot at 1000 cal in an hour later, never ceases to make me nervous.

What method will you be using?

I can do 1000 calories in 50 minutes on the turbotrainer, measuring with a HRM chest strap bluetooth'd to my computer configured to me - but by Christ you know about it! Keeping your heart rate above an average of 150bpm for 50 minutes takes it out of you."

I used the Crosstrainer, my heart rate was below 160 for the hour but I was still dripping with sweat. Still, I've only been working on my cardio for about three weeks now so its early days.

Well done hottie I lost 84lb in 2011 it's amazing realising you were carrying a small person about with you or in my case two.

I've put half of a small person back on in the last two years but it will be gone again this year

84? That's good going. I imagine mine will be about 50 when I'm finished but I'll see how I go. I want to be totally done and happy by the summer then I can just weight train and build up a bit of muscle. Not loads but id love to have some definition. X

Yay , just completed first session of the new year at the gym. They also did my first weigh in post Christmas, I stayed the same , maintained my 30lbs lost so far. I'm more than happy with that. Feel really motivated to carry on now.

A slightly less intense cardio session tonight as I'd already done weights, burned just under 900 calories this time.

"I'm 4 and a bit stone down from last new year and have about a stone and a half to go. I am going to treat myself to some new lingerie when I get there. Much more walking, since I enjoy it. Just need to get up early enough, which I don't enjoy."

One thing you find when you lose weight and get to mainstream sizes is that you can get some lovely lingerie really inexpensively! Both my friend (size16) and I (size 10) bought some really lovely lingerie from primark (they now have a classic/antique looking range). We both looked great in it and it washes really well - at afraction of the cost of the lingerie shops!

Good luck in reaching your goals everyone - i'm planning to work our 3 times a week to get toned again and do the 3 peaks with my daughter - just as soon as my poorly son is fit for school again! Xx

I just want to get nicely and properly toned for the first time ever, maybe achieve a flat stomach??

And to cut out the junk food (again) that sneaked in over Christmas.

I'm going to try and attempt the 30 Day Shred Gillian Michaels workout again tonight. Anyone else doing it? I'm scared!!

I think you'll feel a great sense of achievement after it....

You ever fancied running ???

If you book in for something like a 10k....gives you something to aim for

You're a very impressive lady!

strength is back to where it was so happy with that. hit a PB on shoulder press during lastweek

starting to mix things up a bit with rep ranges and strength/hypertrophy training

gonna see how things go. this year is more about doing things a bit differently to lastyear so its an experiment
