depends on hw you define friends. i have lots of friends live a long way off it is a long time since i had close friends, personally or geographically. But, when it comes down to it, I would say i have always felt alone, not lonely

I have a fantastic wife and kids grandkids but can still feel lonely at times , don't know why this is but happens . Hope you find the advice above helpful hun sorry I can't be more helpful but chin up stay possitive and put last year behind you and stride for a better 2015 . My thoughts are with you

Because many people need a deep connection and a million superficial ones will not replace it. That's how people end up 'chasing the dragon' as l call it, always after the next bandaid fix.

It is a common human condition.

Couldn't agree more. Sometimes I feel the same way. I know that when I've had that deep connection in the past everything else looks rosey. It's about self fulfilment and that's hard to achieve chasing that dragon, it runs bloody fast.....

I think everyone just wants to belong, and not feel like a lost soul simply drifting from one place to another - I think that finding true happiness and fulfilment in life, comes from realising who you are, what you do best, then chasing and embracing those things.

I felt lonely and isolated for the first time on NYE this year. Before, even if I've been alone, I've been content. This year I wasn't; I was unhappy.

I need to make some more changes this year.

Sometimes its not down to other people to give you a sense of fulfilment

2014 was my loneliest year, 2015 will not be the same because I enjoy my own company lol

Learning about ones self and to enjoy your own company is a great start. Then we can learn what we really want. Doesn't always have to be other people. Could be a hobby a secret talent the list is endless..

I have a big family and lots of friends and I feel isolated and alone most of the time. It's like being detached from everyone else. It's probably why I talk to the cats

Because you live in Hampshire.

Through work we have lived in Wales and Worcestershire and found the locals there inquisitive and friendly, back in Hampshire and the villages we grew up in are full of Londoners and we feel strangers where we grew up.

Where we live now we can only know our immediate neighbours.

Thank you all for your comments and advice.

I know I'm not the only one and 2 out of 4 people have had a crap year. Mine just seems to be on repeat. I'm blessed as I have my health (sort of as having surgery in Feb) a roof over my head, a job and a car. And the only men never to of let me down, my two dogs lol. I think most of us reflect on the previous year on NYE. I for one thought I had it all and was supposed to be in NewYork to see 2015 in but turned out he was living a double life and was married but failed to mention that during our 20 month relationship. Long story but the past.

So with positive thoughts I'm going to look at 2015?at making some changes
