Same here.

Very few people turn out to be true friends.

Yes I'm very lucky. Once I've made a "proper" friend they seem to stay. Very rarely have I fallen out with a true friend but over the years some have drifted for various reasons. Most of my close friends I've known getting on 30 years and a couple longer than that

I have friends I have known for many years and always kept in touch even though lots of them live a long way away now.

Don't make them very easily but keep them when I do.

FAB is totally different though

My best mate and I will be celebrating 40 years of friendship in the new year, we met at nursery, went to the same school joined the army together, and have not gone more than two weeks without speaking (well you don't need to talk to a mate while your on/he's on honeymoon) I don't find it hard to make new friends as such, but my newest friend I have known now for 3years, if I'm friends with someone it's for life

I have very few very close friends. My best friend from childhood was also my sister in law but she died a few years ago. I miss her.

I keep myself to myself a lot but the few friends I have are very important to me.

I have 5 true friends who I would trust my life with.

I dont make friends easily, maybe because Im an unsocial bugger

No, I'm naturally quite antisocial. Most of my friends are people I've been friends with for years, so I used to be better at it at some point!

I dont have many friends, I have real problems trusting folk. That said, if I consider you to be a friend then ill defend you to the hilt and would expect the same.

There have been a couple of friends threads on here recently and the answers lead me to believe that most people have very few real friends yet we are led to believe that isn't normal and we should all have great groups of people around us all of whom we know well. Do you think this is down to media such as television shows like "Friends" and "Cold feet"

I have what I call my inner circle of close friends, I've known them all between 8 and 30 years. They're the ones I could call at 3am and they'd be there and vice versa. We've been through a lot together. I would say I make friends easily, but I tend to stick to my group of closest friends.

Bollox to "normal" we do what's best for us as individuals, and whatever we are comfortable with.

On those kind of shows they always seem to all spend Christmas with friends as well.

Personally I've only ever spent it with family every year, either parents and then kids of my own.

I have 3 true friends, used to be 4 until one sadly passed away a couple of years ago. We always meet up on New Year's Eve (in the same pub for the last 20 yrs), and a few other times throughout the year. I have made many other acquaintances over the years, but these tend to come and go

Most of my friends are long serving....or is that long suffering

Was on the phone to my best friend in Australia today

For 2 hours and it is never long enough. Been friends for 35 years

Most recent is 4 years

I am naturally quite shy and have close friends but few acquaintances

I have a best friend who I've known since I was a child and then a few good friends made up from people I've met over the years thru work, social groups. Others I would call more aquantancies than friends.

I'm happy with the small amount I have, works for me...

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I have different circles of friends that sometimes cross over. The true friends tend to be for the long haul - wherever they are in the world.

Some are friends for a season or a reason and that is fine too.

here and there, thereabouts

Can count my true and closest friends on my hands and that's how I like it if am honest. They know me and I know them and we would be there for each other in a heartbeat, though we are spread around the country, even around the world.

I think I am difficult to win over but once I've decided I actually like the person I am loyal to a fault, very upfront, caring, and am the agony aunt of my circles.

I tend to be quite guarded outside of those circles.
