Reasons why I don't go to my local. I'm far too opinionated to be around people who loudly share their stories.

Also... Have you ever noticed that said dolers and such are usually really loud. Unintelligence is usually the loudest, why is that??!!

I thought that being on the dole was passed down from generation to generation? It's a right to not have to work to survive isn't it?

You ever noticed how the doctors are always full of these scroungers too? Gotta maintain an illness for the disability benefit too....

Surely everyone knows co-habiting couples have to claim means-tested benefits such as Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance together as the government expects co-habiting couple to support each other financially, even if one of the couple is not working.

I know I couldn't when my maternity leave ended and I chose to be a stay at home mum.

The innocent ones are the ones who believe such a tall tail. If you really think the benefit office don't check an address to see if someone else lives there, is attached to the claimant you are a little naive.

There are loads of jobs going! I am actively looking for work (not claiming any benefits) and if I was fully able I could have applied for over 100 shop and bar work jobs but due to a problem with my leg im unable to... But for anyone to say the jobs arent out there is just silly!!

The elderly cant help getting old though can they.

Single biggest burden on the welfare system and therefore on our society though

When I was a bit younger I didn't get on with my parents I guess that's what makes you not care about old people so much, you change as you get older though, some do anyway.

I don't think anyone is saying old people are terrible. The observation (which is true by the way) is that pensions make up the largest proportion of the benefits state by a long way. Don't take things so personally.

"My local post office was advertising for staff, a man I know said 'why don't you go for it, you could do it' and I said 'why don't you go for it, you don't work' whereas I do

Jeez. Then I go back to my table which has my pint and my paper on but my chair has gone. A guy tells me a woman took it despite there being 10 other empty tables and about 30 chairs!!! FML. How do these people not fall over more?

Reasons why I don't go to my local. I'm far too opinionated to be around people who loudly share their stories.

Also... Have you ever noticed that said dolers and such are usually really loud. Unintelligence is usually the loudest, why is that??!!

I can't remember who said it, but the quote was to the effect of

'The problem with the world is that the stupid are full of confidence and the intelligent are full of doubt'

I also like

'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt' "

All wise words!! I'm a pretty confident person - so I need to ponder that first phrase! Ooops! xx

just to point out that even if your partner works then you would still have to go through the process of signing on for jsa (even though you wouldn't get any money) every fortnight to get your £2.70 a week stamp paid .... some circumstances may differ (e.gif you recieve child benefit etc)

Wow some of the comments on here remind me why I don't read the daily mail! The people drinking and smoking are probably the reason why we still have an NHS considering the tax on cigs & alcohol. This country is in a far bigger mess than "benefit scroungers." Working families finding themselves having to rely on using food banks to feed themselves? Tories said that we were all in austerity together which for most of us hasn't lifted but Mp's recently got a 10% pay rise. Meanwhile the minimum wage is still £1.20 ph below cost of living rate. 3.5million children in the UK are living under the poverty line yet 66% of families living under that line have at least 1 working parent. Charities like oxfam & save the children who you would associate with their work abroad actually having to do work here to help with poverty. We both work for a living but we don't judge people less well off as ourselves and look down our noses at them because we don't know the circumstances that put them there in the first place.

Great post with a lot to think on but the opening post was about someone complaining that he was being told ge should get a job when his oh earns enough for his keep and jsa pays for his beer.

I agree things in this country are bad for a lot of people and people are having to work hard to male ends meet but not evweyone on benefits are like that as the op shows.

There a guy gets in my local is always saying stuff along the same lines - opening statements in the bar - a twist usually on the latest media shit storm.

He works off shore so is often about during the day when home.

He does it to get a bite - usually works best when there's folk around who don't know him

I'm in the pub and went outside for a cig. A group of people are talking and a guy they obviously know walks over to them and they ask him how he is. He says "I'm not good, not good at all. " So they ask him wants wrong. He's gutted cos his mrs wants him to get a job!!! He's whats the point in that. She earns enough and job seekers pays for my beer!! And before anybody says anything he was beind deadly serious.

Sorry but it boils my piss.We should deport people like that, they are a drain on the country.

First let's tackle all the tax evaders, corrupt MPs and rich con men.

Then let's worry about people getting £50 a week unfairly."

could not agree more .the trend of attacking any benefits claimants merely supports this governments aim to dismantle our welfare system.the wealthy cheats will never be tackled.

Glasgow

I was once involved in an argument with a bloke in a bar, many moons ago. His parting shot was "get back to your work and earn my dole money, I want to go out next Saturday night"

Blood still boils at that one.

"Didn't think you coukd claim job seekers if one half was working.

I know I couldn't when my maternity leave ended and I chose to be a stay at home mum.

Like someone else said if I over heard such a thing there is no way I could keep quiet. The first thing out of my mouth would be oh my god you are kidding right.

The guy will be divorced before he knows itYou can claim it for 6 months if you have paid national ins contributions, then after 6 months they are means tested......most of the fuckers we know getting sick and dole are working ..window cleaners mainly and so easy to find them out but the dole dosent ever latch on,one bloke we know of gets that many different pills from the doc for his illnesses its unreal...he bins them and claims everything , gets that much he has given one of his fiddle jobs up.

And how do you know that about him? Do you think his doctor continually prescribes drugs for non-existent illnesses?

And you could always shop them? It's theft. Unless you condone it?Yes the doctors do keep handing out medicines that have been wrongly prescribed and repeat prescriptions are easily obtainable and handed out regardless by lazy doctors who prescribe on peoples word.

Why should we "shop"a dole cheat, the government tax us to death and make it hard for any builder to get a complimentary scratch on the arse if the snow falls and hard times hit,why would i do the job centres job? In our area your not brought up to "snitch" on others and if you were found out your life would not be worth living.

Do not question my ethics as we have both worked full time our whole lives .

You've got the best idea... Concern yourselves with your own life and let others get on with theirs. I'm thinking a life of humdrumness is one that looked back on will be one that looks wasted but hindsight is in short supply these days

But they clearly aren't concerning themselves with their own life and letting others get on with theirs? Else they wouldn't be calling people 'fuckers' and postibg about benefit cheats...

"

We used that as an example on a public forum ...you just carry on being you , we all have the picture .You on the other hand would prefer to prompt someones life 200 miles away!!! thats the only response your getting as know your game...move on

" Wow some of the comments on here remind me why I don't read the daily mail! We both work for a living but we don't judge people less well off as ourselves and look down our noses at them because we don't know the circumstances that put them there in the first place."
This will sound terrible we know but most of the child poverty we see is because of the parents, they were pregnant at an early age with no qualifications or future and decided to knock out a few kids to gain better benefits and a bigger council house.....should it be rewarded?

Those that construct the system ?

Those that work within the system ?

Those that support the system ?

Those that pay into the system ?

or

Those that use the system to their best advantage ?

More and more working families are being dragged into poverty while successive governments do nothing to curb higher energy and transportation costs. Only the other day a report was made that said childcare was also rising above what alot of families could afford.

Both charities I named in my previous post are doing things that our government should be doing to help kids and adults in poverty improve school results or skills so that they can get the better paid jobs.

The minimum wage instead of making things better for those who work has done the opposite as it gives companies an excuse to pay badly.

The whole benefit culture is a scandal but not just from those minority who abuse this system but also from those who have targeted the weak and vulnerable with their scaremongering as a lot of disabled or disadvantaged have had benefits cut by jobcentre's in a push to meet targets often unfairly. More should be done to help people into work that pays fairly and in proportion with today's cost of living then forcing them into the first job that comes up.

We agree with you in most respects but your talking about folk that want to help themselves.....its the other half that are the issue, once they have got into a hole that they engineered they bleat constantly as the money is not there to keep them in the benefit life they have become accustomed too....the only way to break the cycle is to make things harder ,were not referring to all here

You aren't entitled to anything but more money if you have more kids. And the kids cost you money so it pans out.

If you have more kids than the housing can house you for (and they rarely build a house especially for people, unless they have special needs children and social services are involved with them), then you miss out on having a home big enough for your children. I have 4 kids, my best mate has 5 and no you don't get given a bigger house at all. Also this government has already capped benefits, which is why so many children were homeless this christmas.

Peopele on beenfits just get on with it. When i was on benefits i didn't have internet or time to spare because being poor takes up a lot of your time and is not easy at all. No way did i even have time to moan about being poor, was really depressing as well so i wouldn't have had the confidence to even ask for my right to live a decent life where all my basic needs were met.

So glad i am not too poor to afford the basics in life any more. They are my right and i know better now and will fight for them when i'm an old biddy and on a pension (if pensions even still exist then). Brought my kids up to be entitled to heating, food and wearable clothes so they will know it's their right too.

You have no right to anything, if you were born in a tribe in the Amazon rain forest, you would be dependent on somebody finding your food, shelter, heat.

The beauty of life is your entitled to nothing except death, everything else you want you have to work for or rely on the generosity of others.

"How can 1 claim job seekers if the other has a job/good wage? Somethin ain't right there. Obviously not lajit! That boils my piss too!"

It's possible that his partner is not on a good wage and the benefit is not actually JSA, or, he has worked, payed his NI stamp, as is entitled to 26 weeks JSA un means tested, provided he is actively seeking work, or, he and his 'partner' do not actually live together, ot, there is an element of fraud involved beyond the fraud of claiming Job Seekers Allowance when not actually seeking a job.

it's ok they apologised.

society even treats those who are ostracised forom it as human, so why not everyone else?

we all deserve to be warm, not go hungry, and to have all the basics and necessities that everyone else has. when i'm old i've no doubt i'll be relying on family to keep my in comfort and not any government because that's how it was for previous generations of my family and i don't see any changes really to the system since (apart from nhs, which might be gone some time in the future also).

in liberal countries we have advanced so well in looking after people, this could be worldwide if those over abusing the system paid their way instead of using us (think multi millions avioded in taxes not small amounts of pilfering that don't help but don't really affect the pot as much).

every time we focus on those taking more (and it's one of our own who often takes the least to survive because they can't get the basics any other way) there is a big fuss about it. some people have pointed out the politicians, the wealthy who do not do their bit to be part of society and get away with it and yet nothing is ever done or hardly anyone discusses how this system is designed to produce poverty (be it here or other countries) and focuses on the tiny few who are our own and trying to survive it.

employment is another word for using, i have noticed how the word use is a negative word but applies to other things and not employment any more. a lot of people are being used and sick of it, taxpayers who aren't being paid as much as well as the unemployed being forced into work that pays them nothing, and the tax payers are paying their wages not the companies employing them.

get mad at all this shit too.

bad spelling and that, i type faster than i think.

. The default of life is death.

The basics of life? Let's break it down to basics so it's easier for you to get your head round.

Your entitled to get off your arse and create heat for your own comfort, that is true but your presumption is that, somebody else should get up of their arse and create heat for your comfort because you can't/won't, that isn't true and your not strictly speaking entitled to that person doing it but if you ask nicely and stop being a demanding bugger,I might.

"with respect ..... the only ones bleating on this thread are the ones who aren't on benefit ..... the politics of jealousy is being spoken as i pointed out earlier .... go live your life and enjoy it

Brought my kids up to be entitled to heating, food and wearable clothes so they will know it's their right too..

You have no right to anything, if you were born in a tribe in the Amazon rain forest, you would be dependent on somebody finding your food, shelter, heat.

The beauty of life is your entitled to nothing except death, everything else you want you have to work for or rely on the generosity of others.

Really? Don't act like you know anything about me or my life or what i'm capable of and do already...

I've no idea who you are I was replying to your assumption that people are entitled to stuff.

There not, no one is entitled to anything except death or what they've worked for, everything else is by agreement with society

I certainly wasn't trying to act like I know you, unless you were born in the Amazon rain forest!.

Perfect reply. So therefore i am entitled to heating, and all the basics in life by default. Apology accepted..

That's the way it is.

actually it doesn't bother me a lot but one could see how it might..

Not forgeting overweight people too.

and the elderly too..

The elderly cant help getting old though can they.

They could always jump of a tall building when they reach 55

"

Yep that wouldn't be such a bad idea, in some cases.

NO. Let's tackle them all. It's not OK to fiddle your benefits just because you believe someone else is fiddling their tax any more than it's OK to fiddle your tax just because you believe someone one else is fiddling their benefits.

It's not an either/or thing. Both are wrong and both should be sorted.

HOWEVER, this thread is about benefits not tax evasion. That's a different subject altogether.

i have got close to signing on once in my adult life but luckily got some agency work before i went for my first week signing on.

I have no issue with people who use it for what it is meant to be used for but even you cannot deny that some people do treat it like a career choice in itself.

Its alright coming on here being all righteous and defending people on benefits but as with all walks of life some people on benefits are not worthy of your defense.

" Wow some of the comments on here remind me why I don't read the daily mail!

What a brilliant post

Great post with a lot to think on but the opening post was about someone complaining that he was being told ge should get a job when his oh earns enough for his keep and jsa pays for his beer.

I agree things in this country are bad for a lot of people and people are having to work hard to male ends meet but not evweyone on benefits are like that as the op shows.

I agree there people do take the piss out of the benefits system but it's the minority rather than the majority.

"

It probably is a minority but it still should be addressed.

It's about someone managing their finances a certain and not wanting to work and then talking about that, someone heard them decided it pissed them off. Then all the people who like to prejudice benefit claimants came in and others decided hold on a minute, why does no-one make topics about tax evasion and brought it up. JSA there are requirements to claiming it, if the job centre give him that money then he is entitled to it, end of. No benefit fraud mentioned in the OP at all.

every time we focus on those taking more (and it's one of our own who often takes the least to survive because they can't get the basics any other way) there is a big fuss about it. some people have pointed out the politicians, the wealthy who do not do their bit to be part of society and get away with it and yet nothing is ever done or hardly anyone discusses how this system is designed to produce poverty (be it here or other countries) and focuses on the tiny few who are our own and trying to survive it.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

The only thing to be pissed off about is the single individual posted about.

To extrapolate from that to bolster unpleasant prejudices makes no sense to me. I'd rather save my energies for more important pursuits than trying to justify hatred against a whole group of people.

Do not question my ethics as we have both worked full time our whole lives .

2 their upset at people they know getting something for nothing! But have refused to join in, I would say this is evidence they are concerning themselves with their own way of life.

4 the money were losing to benefit cheats is a drop in the ocean to the amout that is avoided/evaded in taxs by the top 1%

"

You can not compare Tax avoidance with either tax evasion or benefits fraud. Benefits fraud and tax evasion are illegal, tax avoidance is completely legal.

The top 1% of the 'rich' actually pay between 25% to 30% of all personal taxes collected. They are also extremely unlikely to risk any form of tax evasion.

Most tax avoidance, which, to remind you, is legal, is not done by individuals but by corporations.

It's only avoidance because they write the laws, I think you'd find if the majority has actual rule 99% of avoidance would be evasion!.

The top 1% have 93% of the wealth by your own figures there evading tax or there'd be paying alot more than your claimed 25-30%.

Jimmy Carr personally avoided income tax through his company!.

Is it individual or corporation, it's a fine line.

"I just think in this country the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. .

I think it works that way in all counties.... We just excel in it "

You've clearly not been to many countries out side of North Western Europe. If you have you must have had your eyes shut.

The fact that we even talk about it would surprise many other countries.

But the reality is that, taking the last 100 years, the rich have got richer but the poor have got richer even faster. The gap between the rich and the poor is less now than it was 100 years ago.

However, in the last 20 years or so the gap between the rich and the poor has started to grow again. This wasn't too much of a problem at first because the poor were still getting richer. We are now in the situation were most are actually getting poorer so, although the rich are getting richer, the poor, along with most of the rest of us, are actually getting poorer. But, oddly enough, the rate the gap is increasing between the very rich and very poor is actually lower now than it was 5 to 10 years ago.

The beauty of life is your entitled to nothing except death, everything else you want you have to work for or rely on the generosity of others.

Really? Don't act like you know anything about me or my life or what i'm capable of and do already.no one is having a go at anyone in need of help...they are talking about the ones that abuse the system , if you do not do that then no need to bite We brought up 4 kids no benefits others need help we were lucky we didnt

it's ok they apologised.

society even treats those who are ostracised forom it as human, so why not everyone else?

we all deserve to be warm, not go hungry, and to have all the basics and necessities that everyone else has. when i'm old i've no doubt i'll be relying on family to keep my in comfort and not any government because that's how it was for previous generations of my family and i don't see any changes really to the system since (apart from nhs, which might be gone some time in the future also).

in liberal countries we have advanced so well in looking after people, this could be worldwide if those over abusing the system paid their way instead of using us (think multi millions avioded in taxes not small amounts of pilfering that don't help but don't really affect the pot as much).

every time we focus on those taking more (and it's one of our own who often takes the least to survive because they can't get the basics any other way) there is a big fuss about it. some people have pointed out the politicians, the wealthy who do not do their bit to be part of society and get away with it and yet nothing is ever done or hardly anyone discusses how this system is designed to produce poverty (be it here or other countries) and focuses on the tiny few who are our own and trying to survive it.

employment is another word for using, i have noticed how the word use is a negative word but applies to other things and not employment any more. a lot of people are being used and sick of it, taxpayers who aren't being paid as much as well as the unemployed being forced into work that pays them nothing, and the tax payers are paying their wages not the companies employing them.

get mad at all this shit too.

bad spelling and that, i type faster than i think.

No, they didn't apologise.

They said they were wrong to deny me my rights. i accept that as their initial statement was wrong and therefore an apology.

You may have interpretated it that way, I don't. "

.

I said she didn't have any rights not that I wanted to deny them to her.

Bankers really get on my tits the whole fucking system is corrupt and one long scam for rich twats to scive off working people, they have a culture of doing fuck all, taking drugs, they have a perverse sense of meaning, they pay nothing towards society and take as much as they can get..... Unfortunately

SOME people on benefits are exactly the same, they just cost us less.

The morality of the story is that no one should be seen to get away with being beyond the law or it spreads like wildfire to every part of society, the result will always be ordinary decent people suffer first and most because of two reasons, the scumbags at the lower end have no repercussions as they live with nothing to take away except there dole, fines and prisons are away of life to most of them and their third or fourth generation work shy bums.

The higher end though would respond to fines and prisons as they have an awful lot to lose, the only reason they "get away" with it, is because they run government by the backdoor.

So moral ambiguity a side I really don't see a solution only a downward spiral.

"Sorry but this a rant.

Then let's worry about people getting £50 a week unfairly.

No benefit fraud mentioned in the OP at all."

I never said the thread was about benefits fraud, I said it was about benefits. But I agree, if he is legally entitled to the benefit then he should be given it. However, if he's not actively seeking work then he's not legally entitled to claim Job Seekers Allowance and if he is that is a fraud.

By saying i don't have rights is denying them. I do have rights, and society says i do.

We don't partake in their system and that's how the system loses it's power.

Thing is, so many rely on the system it would be impossible to be rid of it, or at least not have it a ruling force that the majority approve of.

And it is for this reason why those not partaking in the system are looked down on, because we have a system that says partake in me or be looked on as wrong and then the system can continue to rule over you and make the rules and tell anyone outside of it they are wrong and their lifestyle is wrong. All the rich, the queen, the government, they want you to act like this, to serve them and their country, not our country but theirs.

I genuinely don't understand what you mean by the politics of jealousy. Can you expand a little for me?

I'm sorry you feel that way but I genuinely don't understand that phrase. I'll Google it I'll get a straightforward answer.

So people who moan about those abusing the benefit system that the work in amongst us pay into are jealous, have I got that right?

I have no problem with these who use the system for what its meant to be used for but why should I work and pay my taxes for someone who has no inclination or intention to get a job to sit around and mugg me off for it? That's not jealousy, its incredulation! I would hate to be that person. I like going to work and earning money to buy the things I want and need. I can think of nothing worse than wasting my days away on the dole. Some peoples sense of entitlement from others is disgusting. I'll work to keep you in basics but not luxury.

Googled it. It seems the politics of envy or jealousy are about certain politicians wanting the wealthy to contribute more.

"Googled it. It seems the politics of envy or jealousy are about certain politicians wanting the wealthy to contribute more."

you need to do more research then .... i'm guessing that the soundbite you found is probably from a daily mail report in the last 3-4 years that tried to hi-jack the term ... no one political party or ideology can lay claim to the phrase even though, ironically enough, many have attempted to do so in order to further their own agenda

It was from the Telegraph.

I had hoped you would tell me but you just seem to want to point out my lack of knowledge rather than help me out on it. I'll read up on it when I have more time

some folks are jealous of those that they think are getting a free ride from society while others are jealous that society is holding them back by keeping them "down" .... they expend their energy by bickering and arguing with each other going round and round in ever decreasing circles, it is no fault of either party for the circumstance of the other but they both fail to see that it is the fault of the society in which they are both forced to live in..... this is a concise definition of course but i hope it helps you to see what the phrase means

It's human nature, we know for a fact there's shirkers and parasites at the higher end of the scale we've seen it in the banking industry.

Why would anyone think it's any different at the lower end of the scale or for that matter in the middle bit..... Nobody pays taxs voluntary that's why we have laws forcing you to pay and that's why we have laws to stop people abusing benefits or they would do.

We just need the laws enforcing more.

There's a bloody good reason they don't though and that's because division is always better than unity.

In not jealous of anyone (well maybe John Holmes but without the death).

I dislike lazy cunts, be they poor or wealthy or something in between its the worst of human traits.

i don't care if people chose to be lazy or if they chose to work themselves to death really ..... both ideas seem to be be pointless and don't really affect me to be fair

Humans were a bunch of scumbags when times are good and curiously we seem to be a lot better when times are hard.

If things didn't effect us what would be the point of life,I get sad because things effect me if I didn't get sad I wouldn't know what joy was. All superheroes need an arch enemy just like love needs hate or calm needs anger, if I wanted one long harmonious cotton wool feeling of tranquility sat on my arse feeling nothing I'd take heroin.
