Well I managed to catch up on the first one on iplayer and found it erm a bit boring.

So watching the second one in the hope that it got going, and unfortunately it just went downhill. You can tell they've run out of ideas in the writing department and now it's just very ridiculous and tedious.... Like Richard ooh no I've broke my track rod end how will I ever fix it on this snowy track in the middle of nowhere.... Ooh yes that 50 odd crew with welders and parts should do it

In the end I was kinda glad they run them out of Argentina as it brought the show to an end at least.

I spent most of the episode rolling my eyes. The challenges are always the same now. I love the programme but they really need to start doing better specials.

.It's quite funny at a teenage level.... But they've done it before , it's the same joke recycled on every show, it's clichéd and tiresome now.

And I wouldn't at all be surprised if the whole mob scene hadn't been manufactured by the producers and then got out of hand.

The specials were fun for the silly pranks and stunning scenery, but this one focused on a silly number plate which I am sure the show producers both bought and leaked (and explained) as FLK is not much of an abbreviation of Malvinas.

I also suspect with the opening challenge and closing scene the entire thing was scripted and the mob were paid extras.

lol, I remember not watching that program when I was a kid

I guess it's no different to the shows that pretend to be news based inspired by Orson Wells war of the worlds, but this one just didn't have the script.

I have ridden parts of the area they filmed in, but only on tarmac and it is as stunning as they portrayed but forgot to focus on.

Clarkson is normally a very astute writer, his whole media image of "power" and the "Buffonery" is completely staged to appeal to the average petrol head, it used to be written with clever wit and novel ideas but alas as with most shows I think it's run its course.

The staging of the events in the shows has gone overboard in the last few years in the attempt to keep out bettering the previous stunts, this is usually the first sign that the writing has failed, even the laughing looks staged now.

I actually think there would be more genuine interest in returning top gear to it's roots but probably with James may as the only presenter, as he appeals to the Haynes manual car appreciation types (me).

Blimey! Bit strong there even with the thrown in "lol". People are entitled to their own opinion and also entitled to type them on here. , . Maybe you should read your own post.. "Oh for gods sake its just a tv programme" and stop getting heated! Like most "reality" shows, it is scripted in part. They do have people researching and suggesting the way the program should go.

It has got a little

puerile and they do seem to have run out of good ideas. Maybe it is time for a break... Still, opium for the masses..

Argentina did exist in the North, but not in the Southern part and Argentina certainly didn't have control of the Falklands in that time,

As ever and was alluded to by James May - they majority of Argentinians are decent and couldn't give a shit but for some it's all they know.

If they hadn't invaded and used continued diplomacy the'd probably have them now like Hong Kong.

The Junta were responsible for lots of 'disappeared' who were simply thrown out the back of a transport aircraft over the South Atlantic - indeed the real winners if there is such a thing was Argentina themselves, free from dictatorship.

Actually the French were the first to have a colony on there a year before us and we were there for a year before we realised the French had already set up camp on the east.

But if I remember correctly our claim comes not from first landing(I think that would have been Portuguese maybe megellan?) or first colony but as the only remaining established colony (the French and the Spanish gave up).

South america has complex borders due to the land being "divied up" by the pope and the subsequent fall of the Spanish empire the guianas is probably the archetypal of land borders the region was taken over by the British Dutch Spanish Portuguese and French and on that note the French are the only people that still hold it as an overseas territory (French Guiana) Suriname Guyana being the British and Dutch I think Venezuela adopted the Spanish section and not sure who took the Portuguese bit? But it shows that south america and central america has always been "turbulent" due to the whole conquistador era and the rise and fall of the various empires afterwards.

Well they're ours now and probably will be for a long time. I'm sure most didn't want a war, but they sure got one and came out last (by a terrifyingly small margin if you read Sandy Woodward's 100 days.)

So tough.

Some still think the Belgrano incident to be some sort of war crime - even the Captain himself admitted he was on the way to attack the Task Force from the South with an Aircraft carrier to the North.

Unfortunately for him The Conqueror was one the case (well under him by less than 50')

Thoroughly agree. The issue is not who had the Falklands first. The vast majority of the present population want to be British. So that should be the decider. I never understood how people considered the sinking of the Belgrano as a war crime.
