Is it blocked?

Get a plumber?

I got a new not ballcock thing and that fixed mine.

does it fill up if you hold the lever down for a few seconds

It could be the fill tube from the fill valve is pointed into the tank and not the overflow tube or a blockage in the waste pipe. Also check the water level in the tank pre flush.

You may need to replace the fill valve. They're cheap.

bradford

theres 2 types to that side fill system the old brass type and the plastic type both use a ball valve washer with a plastic infill

sounds more like you have had the water off or someone has done in the area and has caused a little bit of muck to get inside of it causing the water not to fill up correctly

the plastic is easier to do the brass type is a swine to do

brass type after shutting off water is at the end as the cap screws off but you also need to take the ball cock off by taking out the split pin and removing the ballcock from the system

the plastic type is roughly same but you unscrew from a plastic collar near the filler valve

I don't know if your getting your words crossed or not but if your toilet bowl(that's the bit you piss in) isn't filling it has nothing to do with your ballcock... If your toilet bowl isn't filling it's likely the water is being sucked out through syphoning when being flushed. The cistern(the bit with the water in) not filling up enough is most likely your ballcock (Hehe) out of adjustment (haha).

The fill in the cistern is at its fill line, the siphon in the cistern had been sticking (I thought this might have caused the problem) after flushing the toilet bowl (the bit you wee in) the water level is lower than normal... If it's being sucked out (siphoned) what would cause that no works been done at the house ?

Blocked, use a soaking wet mop to plunge it

Gravesend

It's a problem with the drains. Not the cistern
