Homeless at Xmas

My day from hell been away work came home water leaking through the ceiling for how long I don't know no heating or hot water fed up May have to move out got no family

What about your insurance? Surely they'd organise hotel accommodation until your house is habitable again.

. I hope you are fully insured. I had a water leak in one of my houses recently and had dehumidifiers running for three weeks . Luckily I was fully insured . Just have to pay a £300 excess.

To add to my pm, i was in a hostel for two months, should have been 4 weeks but had to piss about waiting for the insurance to collect their evidence.

Place needed drying out, replastering and skirting boards/wooden floors checking for damp, and new crappy MDF kitchen putting in. So yeah might be hard work for a couple of months for you.

. My job is still incomplete after four months . Luckily the damage was not too bad but the agent acting on behalf of the insurer does not seem to be in any urgent rush.

Insurance messed me about loads, and still haven't paid out for everything yet. I'm never insuring again. only insured my household goods.

I'm in social housing so my LL is pretty good, they like their properties to retain it's value so fix things up quick when they need to. Plus weren't getting any rent for an empty property.

pierced holes at bottom of tank but don't know how long it's bean leaking

was gonna suggest using an electric heater but your electronics might not be alright to use either.

Maybe try some hotels if you can get one, or b&bs, for Christmas, then see what other options are available?

Gas cooker? Heat up your kitchen and boil pans of water.

It's doable. You can have a wash down in the warm. Just don't say you have electric oven and hob.

So I guess you've got someone working on it at least? That's a good start, guess you're getting there? I don't think you'll be 'homeless at Xmas' as you put it, fingers crossed anyway. There's people in far worse situations out there, that's one positive to take

the last thing I would think of in a similar situation would be to post on any site about what's happened..

saving your phone battery for contacting people etc may be an idea..

there are many things all positive that you can be doing to sort the situation which wont render you 'homeless'..

wish you well, shit happens chin up and crack n fella..

. You will probably need Tobin any damp carpets . Hopefully you will have a few undamaged rooms that you can use .
