lights off is a bit weird - why wouldn't you be want to be able to see what you're doing (and what your partner is (or partners are!) doing)? Having said that full lights on can be a bit bright and clinical so yes muted lighting - lamps - are probably best. Candles do look sexy agreed but a bit of a burn hazard. Unless that's what you're into!?

not bothered - i we grab each other in bed in the middle of the night then dark is fine - broad daylight is fine too - we do like candles round the bathroom though as we unwind in there
