Ok I'm sure this term has been used for ages , and I'm guessing it refers to all those dedicated followers of what is deemed to be fashion today ?

However it seems to me to be a relatively newish term in popular language is this right ? Is it a London thing or city thing

What's your perception ?

And yes I realise it's an old term being reused ? When did that start again ?

I think it was a 1950's thing to be 'hip' so 'hipsters' were those who were hip. Ten there were Hippies. Now I wear hipsters, snug fitting thigh length underwear.

my commiserations ..... can i ask if this is a recent diagnosis? or have they gone full blown hipster? (i.e they have already booked their tickets for The Secret Garden Party next summer)

was browsing pof the other day and it was weird. near enough all the girls in a certain age bracket dressed the same, looked the same, same interests, even the pictures used such as those at festivals and shit just all looked the same!

It seems to have resurged in usage as a term for what I've seen appear to be awfully dressed dimwits, usually who are so up their own arses they're tickling tonsils.

Fashionable dressers are generally great, subject to the fashion. Hipsters seem to stray outside of standard fashion, in fact beyond almost all standards of common decency.

Nothing is too tight, too bright, too revealing or out there to be worn and thrown together in any combination that may startle others' senses and wellbeing.

There is no such thing as fashion anymore. The times that everyone wore certain fads have long since gone. You can wear anything nowadays, without fear of ridicule as you will usually be part of a some kind of tribe or subculture. Hipsters are the saddoes who change their hairstyle as frequently as their socks and don't realise they are being laughed at. I always get the feeling that a hipster has no personal sense of style, and will wear whatever some plastic faced nobhead like Versace tells them. Edina Monsoon is a hipster. Would you want to be be like Eddie sweetie? I'm chanting as I type this. Ciao.

My point is, mods, goths, punks, emos, crusties, whatever...don't change their look because some silly twat in an overpriced mag tells them to. A hipster will fanny around in cowboy boots, jeggings, mohair jumper and a doily on his head if GQ, Tatler or Vogue tell them.They read The Emperors New Clothes as kids, and thought he looked fabulous. Daaahling.
