I'm not sure where you would stand legally but anyone I have known who has simply walked out has never been pursued for money in lieu of notice or anything.

Otherwise the worst is that you wont be able to get another job.

The best that could happen is that you will feel a massive sense of relief and be much happier and safer.

Why don't you look for another job.

At least them you're making a positive step rather than just stepping out into am abyss.

Get your safety net(another job) sorted first would be my advice

You have no money for a bit..lose your time in hand if you had any and prob no reference....if its that bad though go...I've done it before, and wouldn't change it...only you know what will ultimately make you happy, and it doesent sound like this job....

You may have to upset the apple cart but go find your happyness best of luck whatever you decide

If you can cope with out money for a time ... Do it .. most your life is spent working so I think you should like it in some way . Or maybe keep the job until you found a job you like .

Wats the point in working in an environment you hate? You spend most of you life working why spend it unhappy? If your prepared to work it won't take you long to get fixed up n be happy . Life does not revolve around work alone .

I'm 'chief engineer' with a five bob fabrication company here where I live.......It's fucking freezing cold every fucking winter while the 'staff' enjoy a warm office, full pay either sick or not and other benefits.

I've had 12 years of this shit....I'm more intelligent than all of them put together and.....come new year.....I'm walking out.

would you need a reference from them to get a good job.? will it make a difference if you don't have one.? Why I said maybe look now and say your unhappy in your job and looking to move .

If you are entitled to sick pay why not "go sick" for an extended period in the new year, give yourself a bit if breathing space and time to look for something else in the meantime...... Not entirely ethical but you get paid without being too hasty x

Some employers pay full pay for certificated sickness but by no means most.

It depends if you have in demand skills it could be financially crippling if you don't find another.

You're 4 times more likely to get a job if you're already employed. Look for another job now. For the first time in a long time the are more jobs advertised than there is unemployed people (recent news report).

Look on www.indeed.co.uk or the gov.uk website (universal jobmatch)

Sounds like you're very qualified and experienced so you shouldn't have a problem finding something better. Life is too short. Good luck

Sign on with loads of agencies, any money coming in is better than nothing and I started mine in April for 3 days per week for 3 months and I am now full time on a contract rather than temp until March 2015

In my younger more compulsive day's I have walked out on several job's.

However being a carpenter work had always been available very quickly.

Since 2006/7 this all changed with the start of the recession.

Since I have been stuck working for probably the worst company I have ever worked for in 30 year's (and trust me I have worked for some real dirtbags) I am stuck with them at the moment.

Things will change in new year as work is picking up.

And here is my point.

Things will only change if you make them change,but you need to put a plan in place.

Look for other work, put yourself outthere, cv,agencies etc...

After 12 years I imagine you need to get cv updated, apply for a couple of Crap job's that may give you interview experience.

Be proactive.

Agreed that the grasw is not always greener but unless you give it a go you may never find out.

Also and this is something I try to do, focusing on the good aspects of current job even tho they may be very small and limited aspects it's always better to try and think positive.

Haha your kidding Ive not had sick pay from a job for the last 7 years. Most employers dont pay any and the ones that do usually only pay a week at most then you go on statutory sick pay!

Going off sick for a lengthy period will possibly prejudice your chances of new employment and to be honest, sick pay is for when you are genuinely ill, not because your fed up with your job
