At what age do you tell the kids (if you have any) that Santa isn't real?

For me I'd say a year or 2 before they leave junior school. So between 7-10 years old.

Menston near Ilkley

Make it part of their becoming a young adult and remind them to keep it magical for younger children.

I had to tell my 9 yr old the other day because I think he had an idea about it but he wasn't sure and he keep telling the younger ones he wasn't real which isn't fair, so I took him away and explained to him about Santa, his reaction wasn't wht I expected he burst into tears I felt realy bad I just said he was in my gang now and we need to keep a secret! I felt bad at first but he's come round now and happy to be in dad's gang

Kids look up to us adults and thrive on what we tell them, its securtity.

Look at it from a kids point of view, for years and years you have been telling us THIS, now with a bit of a bump your telling us THAT. Why should we take you too serious on other things you will tell us from now on until we are a bit older?

How can we trust you for the next few years?

If someone else tells them you dont burst their bubble

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

My boy is nearly 6, and the magic is still very much alive.

The older kids in school have been telling some of the wee ones that its parents not santa, but thankfully my wee fella thinks thats "total nonsense" and parents can't do all the magical toy stuff on the day the shops are shut...

I'll be guided by him when we have the talk, but for now, no age in mind. He's an only child so no siblings to spoil it.

Well I don't want my daughter going into secondary school and everyone in her year doesn't believe in Santa and she does.

Besides someone will probably tell her before I do. I found out when I was 9, didn't really bother me

My parents encouraged me to believe in Santa from an early age.

Unfortunately they were both dyslexic which is why I became a devil-worshipper

Its a hard one as kids talk at school but i would say when the child asks would be the best time.

We told our children the first Christmas they were in secondary school. No dramas. We never did the Easter bunny , didn't realise people did. Have we missed out on something ?

I did the same. Don't see why an imaginary anything should take the credit for me putting in all the effort.

Never told my kids santa was real, now they know i'm not a liar and trust me.

I work in a school and part of my work takes place in the science block.

Last night I was in the prep room and two girls were talking to the physics teacher

Physics teacher: "if you don't go to the awards ceremony, Santa will cry"

Girl: "Santa isn't real"

Physics teacher: "can you give me a logical proof he isn't"

Girl: "no..."

Physics teacher:"there you go then!"

Me: "aha, but there certainly *was* a Saint Nicholas"

Girl:"yeah...but he's dead"

Physics teacher:"how do you know he is?"

And so ad infinitum.

My daughter is 10 and I think this is her last year of Santa. Her best friend has been telling her it is us giving the presents, but she is fighting it.

I never believed as far back as I can recall. From an early age I knew that presents came from parents and relatives. I also knew that the fat old blokes with fake white beards were not all the same person.

I pretended I believed for a while, to keep the presents coming and so as not to spoil it for the adluts.

im not going to tell her he doesnt exist..

having faith or a belief is magical and if she decides to change her mind and not believe its her choice. Im not gonna be the one to break her heart. Its not harming anyone.

She will more than likely hear it from others in time but if she asks i will tell her the truth, for now though its magical
