Seems BT is about to aquire EE, (T-mobile and Orange in old money), for £12.5bn. This will make BT the UK's largest landline and mobile operator.

Weird thing is, I remember having a phone that was on BT Cellnet, which then became O2.

Anyway, here's the source http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/telecoms/11294252/BT-agrees-to-buy-EE-for-12.5bn.html#disqus_thread

They are no doubt doing it as EE have undercut them so much. EE have even done deals where they take over your BT land line as part of your whole mobile and landline package and charge you less for it than BT were!

When I first had a phone in 1997, I was with One2One which became T-Mobile, ultimately transcending into EE.

I also joined TSB in 1996, who merged with Lloyds. Since their separation I am now with Lloyds

it was....BT sold Cellnet to spanish national operator Telefonica.... who rebranded it O2 and make shed loads of cash.........

so BT were in talks to buy back O2... obviously those talks have gone tits up and they are now likely to by EE.....

what BT want to go is get into "quad play"... which means Mobile Phones/Landline/Pay TV/Internet

so they can offer you one join price for everything....... and doing that from the largest phone base helps them compete with the likes of Sky and Virgin media

4G was supposed to have download limits 10x faster than 3G. This is because everyone is upgrading to 4G the bandwidth is getting overloaded and as a result the speeds are tumbling.

A lot of investment needed to increase the speeds. I think the report said the max was around 5 or maybe 6x faster than 3G, which was with EE I think.

Rumour is that Hutchison Whampoa (owners of 3) are looking to buy them, but that's the least likely option.

With Virgin and BT having quadplay, it wouldn't surprise me if sky made a bid. They already took their phone and internet business

I think the competition authority may want to have a look at this deal if BT do go ahead with it.

they wont... because BT doesn't have any other dealings in mobile phone.. so as far as competition is concerned, it won't be any different to what it is now....
