For the first time ever, I have actually enjoyed one.

A private room in a restaurant, great food, great mix of people from the MD to the apprentices all sat together muddled up.

Had such a laugh my face was actually aching.

Not a disco or a cracker or a silly hat in sight.

Those that wanted to party moved on at midnight and the old fogeys (like me) went home.

I used to detest the pomp and formality and set agenda of the ones I attended with my previous employers ?

So, what do your firm organise and, more importantly, what sort of works party do you prefer to attend ?

The quiet meal or the hotel overnighter ?

The company i work for give us a budget per person and our centre put a few suggestions in and has a vote. We are going to a party night at Ayr racecourse on friday. I can't wait. It'll be a rowdy affair as usual as we are a rowdy bunch and we like to party

my workplace does nothing, its up to each department to sort themselves out. Our department is in a bit of turmoil at the moment so nothing was organised properly. We were supposed to go bowling tonight but loads of people bailed....I organised a meal out on Wednesday but worked out last night the I am actually busy that night....such a farce!!!

We have to go for a curry with our boss who will rush through the meal as he can't get away quick enough whilst constantly talking shop . Consequently three of the five of us have excuses not to go .

Mrs JFL's works do tonight; nice hotel in the Peak District.

The food will undoubtedly be lousy, the company, for the most part, incredibly dull and the disco will be crap but hey, it's a free bar all night and unlimited wine on the table!

I'd have gone out on the piss with the students I study with but had three assignment deadlines this week, so that went out the window.

East Manchester

I think anyone who gets the boss to spend anything on their workforce which they aren't obliged to is bloody lucky.

My last company was an aerospace subcontractors, at Xmas the factory floor staff got a choice of either a bottle of spirit, 2 bottles of wine or a case of beer. The administration/office staff were taken into Manchester to a hotel by a coach, there was a private room with free bar & buffet and a band/DJ, a subsidized room was available if you were too far gone to make it home.

Just because we worked on the factory floor we were treated like 2nd class people, it's no wonder today's kids don't want to follow after their parents and go into industry.
