I was talking to a mate last night and he said the word"fuck" dates back to Henry viii.He reckons that if you wanted a child out of wedlock u had to ask clergy etc and they in turn would ask for you.if it was granted you could Fornicate Under Consent of the King.Anybody else heard of this or any others?

Look it up on Wikipedia; the 'Fornicate Under Consent of the King' appears to be another urban legend.

I like the 18th Century phrase 'Frisk in a hempen cravat'.

I think the short words like fuck and cunt originate from Viking language. The French influence changed our zeds to esses

A few of the dictionaries reckon it originated between 1475 and 1510. From a mix of Germanic, Dutch and Swedish origins

If I remember right, the word "naff" comes from the gay slang language Polari and stands for Not Available For Fucking

"If I remember right, the word "naff" comes from the gay slang language Polari and stands for Not Available For Fucking"

We could have a Naff button instead of block I guess.

I'd always known fuck to be very very old.

"cunt goes way back, way way back."

You'll need a long one then.
