fuse box help please

hiding from cock pics.

My fuse box has a switch that keeps flipping and the lights honour. If I flick it back there's blue sparks so I have left it.

Is it something like a bulb somewhere... If I can I want to avoid calling an electrician unless I do need one. Constructive advice welcomed please.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'm not sure sparks are good. If the fuse keeps tripping then something is surging somewhere isn't it? Have you tried switching things off before flipping the switch?

A bulb could do it if it is the lights going off

You have a short somewhere, if it's on a lights circuit, turn all the lights off and see if the flappy thing stays up, if not you need an electrician

Switch all your appliances off and try again. Which circuit is tripping?

I've found that energy saving light bulbs always blow a fuse when they go.

Turn everything off at the wall. Reset the trip switch. Turn everything back on one by one. The thing that is creating the fault should trip it again. When it does, just isolate that thing!

If unsure, get a sparky in. The is a risk of electrical fire

Check you've not got too many things running at once. This time of year when people have all sorts of xmas lights going it can be a problem with overloading the circuit. Good luck

Toasters are the most common for causing the electric to trip out

What did you do before the breaker tripped? Did you turn something on? If not, did the heating come on perhaps or did you drill a hole somewhere?

A blown bulb doesn't often create a short circuit.

Leicestershire

Cut down on the Hitatchi Wand sessions give the breakers a rest for a bit

Or do the really sensible suggestion and turn everything off, reset and turn back on one at a time. That will tell you where the fault is...

Thank you so much. I'm turning it all off then on one by one. There was nothing at the exact time that I turned on. It's a light circuit I know that much. Thank you... And back shortly

With ever light switch I can think of off its still flicking immediately. I will have to find a sparky.

does the switch on the board got mcb or rcd printed on it? if it is an mcb what is the number on it? if it's the number six then it is most likely a light circuit. you most likely have 2 light circuits or maybe even 3. one is for upstairs one will be for downstairs and if you have a third it may be the kitchen. don't panic. these things trip out to protect the cables in the circuit (nbot the devices that are wired into them) so it's doing it's job properly and there is no danger as it is.

The shaver socket and bathroom fan will also be on the lighting circuit so it could be one of those tripping it. You may have a switch to turn the fan off but not the shaver socket.

Sounds like sparky time to me.

I'd Unplug everything as well, not knowing who's wired the house wouldn't shock me to find someone using a lighting circuit for a wall socket

Usually... If somethging trips, you should switch off all electrical devices first, before resetting the switch, then re-switch irtems on 1 at a time. Reason being theres too much sudden load with lots of gadgets simultaniously demanding power and will re-trip the switch. If it keeps happening as stated get a leckytrician in.

Sounds like something is shorting out...

Have you been doing any DIY (putting nails or screws in walls?) or washing down plugs or switches?
