a friend of mine is having a baby in April and she found out I am a bit of a knitter!

she has asked me to knit her a blanket for her baby which I am thrilled about but she has said that the colour and design are up to me!! I have looked at hundreds and hundreds of patterns and cant seem to decide on one!

I want one that looks good but isn't too fiddly....warm but not too heavy as we will be heading into spring by the time it gets used (possibly winter by the time it gets finished knowing me though lol)

anyone got any patterns they can share with me???

Yup, I would go sort of rectangular say 2' x 3' or there abouts. I would go with 4 ply, cos that is the only size of wool I know.

stick to the square or diamond pattern for blanket however you could knit one with a picture in it or a disney character in the pattern which would be easiest

I tend to knit shawls in 3ply without too high a wool content so they don't shrink in the wash. They seem to be quite versatile. Good luck as April will soon come round.

more north lincs than mids!

Have you seen the pompom type wool? You can get it in blue/white and pink/white (probably other colours too) It's really soft, and lovely for babies

I knitted a crib / pram blanket for my new grandson. It's double thickness with a thin layer of wadding between so like a very lightweight knitted duvet. The front gives the impression of separate rectangles but it's knitted in one piece and edged in a fluffy-ish type wool. It's my daughter's favourite blanket because it's warm but incredibly light.

I find the more patterns I look at the more difficult it is to decide. Ruthlessly cut it down to five and make your decision from there. (I've never managed to do that yet)

I always think real wool or a wool mix is best (expensive though)and a pattern that doesn't have too many lacy bits for small fingers to get hooked up in.

been looking on there. have found one I like which is a shell type pattern knitted with 2 strands at the same time so could go white and another neutral colour as they don't know what sex the baby is yet.

Just spent half an hour trying to work out how to knit flat on circular needles without turning the work only to realise I read the pattern wrong....doesn't bode well for knitting the damn thing if I cant read that basic instruction

ive sent you a pm with a site that has plenty of them with easy or intermediate instructions and designs in easy to read patterns all in pdf format

plenty to choose from including having rattles inside the blanket and alot of other stuff as well to choose from

Part of the resource is the group members who are brilliant with suggestions and links. And advice if you get stuck with anything.
