Postal Delivery

Today we had a parcel which was delivered to our neighbours down the road who on opening it realised their mistake and on looking discovered it was addressed to someone else , but in opening the parcel they destroyed the initial of who in our family it was meant for ,at this point I will point out that I still live very local to my parents , anyway neighbours phoned up my parents to say they were very sorry but they have opened a parcel which wasn't addressed to them and could they pick it up on passing .

So this morning I had a phone call from my parents telling me that there was a parcel to be picked up from their house and that they will leave it by the back door , 'No problem ' says I

At this point I would like to say in Mindys defence that she has never ordered anything lewd to be home delivered ,,,,, ever ,,,, probably the only thing was a 50 shades book . So she took upon her self to order something which seems quite perverse and unusual for my chrimbo present

except it is now not a surprise ,,,,, and somehow I have got to look my parents straight in the face later on and by now the whole village will know

This is something that bugs me about when this happens.

How difficult is it to deliver the right letter / parcel to the right house

I mean, most houses have a number on the front of them to help Postie out!!!

My last lovehoney order was delivered to number 3... and as she thought it was her contact lenses, she opened it... and really did get an eyeful heheheh

I recently placed an order with a well known "adult" site, something I rarely do. My landlord cannot read or write and has been known in the past to open my post in error so I made a particular point of telling him that I was expecting a parcel and not to open anything that came until I had checked to see who it was addressed to.

There was just sufficient mischief in me tho that I would have loved to see his face had he opened the box!!!

Have you worked as a postie?

My fiancé does so has first hand experience of what it's like. Firstly, not all houses have numbers on them. If they did his job would be much easier.

Secondly, if people wrote legibly on whatever they are sending it is more likely to reach it's destination.

Finally, a postal round consists of at least 1500 addresses to deliver to. Some circulars are sent to all addresses and they HAVE to be delivered. The postman is not a robot, he/she is a human being. Just like all of us, they can make a mistake.

Christmas is no fun for posties. Last year he worked a 16 hour shift one day just to get all his round completed. Since he's been there he has had hernia surgery twice and is currently recovering from the second op.

Fancy giving it a try?

I was simply making a point about postal delivery being a service that has been paid for by the customer. Is it really wrong to expect them to get it right?

I didn't say ALL houses had numbers on them. I said that MOST do.

I think you missed the main point I made. Posties, like all of us are human and we all make mistakes in our day to day lives at work. None of us are robots and none of us are perfect.

So yes, we do pay for a service but like every other services industry you will find that mistakes happen

I wouldjust like to point out that this was a typed address label and the house the parcel was delivered to is also clearly signed ,,,,,, and the address for me is so blatantly obvious that I still cant believe it went to the wrong house ,

I will just put it down to one of lifes experiences that I could of done with out LOL

I worked for UPS and can second this. My round doubled in size from mid nov till early Jan and I was doing 14 to 16 hours a day for 3 to 4 weeks. A large number of out of town addresses were house names not numbers. It is a nightmare
