went to see the who at leeds fd arena on tues, what an awful venue! no standing at all, everyone politely sat in seats as if they were at the cinema, when anyone needed the loo 20 people had to stand up to let them past,£4.50 for a flat pint of piss, about as much atmosphere as a wet tea bag, the who arent worth 60quid these days either so save your hard earned and find a local pub with a good reputation for putting bands on instead.

I sometimes think the same with comedy in arenas. 90 minutes is generally too long for a lot of comedians (Ken Dodd solves this problem by just doing ALL of his material) and their sets would be better edited down to about 60 and would play better in a smaller venue. A lot of the small venues are more intimate and their is a greater sense of the now in the act.

A lot of the time, the guy on stage could be reading from a script, whereas in a smaller space, there is more audience interaction and it is a lot less abstract. You aren't following Lee Evans on a screen.

hate them mate, would only go out now to one to see springsteen everyone can bugger off! give be a boozer that smell of piss any day of the week... close contact with the band and kebab on the way home... jobs a good un!

I cover a fair few gigs during the course of a year and much prefer a more intimate venue these days. I travel to Nottingham, London, Birmingham, St Albans and down to the south coast too. Paying less than £10 to see four or five up and coming bands on one night is quite refreshing

we were at the red rooms in notts few weeks ago was a good night but the band had a mare with the guitar.. big venues suck for me right now.... used to like them but not anymore.... but I do fancy quo @ the civic in wolves but too skint to bother trying to get tickets....

Saw Quo earlier this year and have to say they rocked as well as anything we have seen. Remember if you get to go don’t forget to take a blow up guitar lol

We've just got tickets to Van Morrison in a jazz club in Kensington. It only holds about 300 people. I enjoy the smaller shows a lot more. The big arena ones can lack intimacy.

We went to see Augustines at Manchester Cathedral Monday night. Awesome venue for a gig, awesome live act and all for 15 quid. Fantastic night's entertainment.

Yes went to see them in Llangollen in July. Rossi was struggling a bit, but was great nonetheless.
