Whats the proof of age thing coming when you get asked for I.D to buy a decorators set.... You know the type with rollers and a paint brush.

Anyway yesterday i dragged my lovely mr out to the shops in Doncaster cause i've told him 'we' (i say that lightly) need to start redecorating in the house.

Anyways i got to the tills and the crazy woman wouldn'tsell me the set

You didn't just have to be 18 to buy this set.... oh no.....

21

Anyway they wouldnt even let me get them with paul with me bearing in mind hes 41! Cause i was paying for them. lol

What the hells happening in this country :O I obviously couldn't buy the stuff and my erm not so lovely now beloved quite forcefully placed the basket amongst other larger items on the till and dragged me out...

Somehow i don't think he was impressed....

What do you all think to this

O o O oo

The world is going mad !! did it have a knife in it? but even then why do you have to be 21?

I read in the paper of a 64 year old man being asked for I.D. for booze....... and he didn't have any kids or youngsters with him as they use that excuse sometimes.

Lol i know i think it might have had a window scraper in it...

Whats crazy is a gund whop can sell a gun to an 18 year old, but they couldn't sell me a decorators set!

How would i cope if i didn't live with paul? It's crazy!!!!! Would they expect me not to have a nice home until i was 21?

I was more annoyed because i chose a lovely throw for the bed and i couldn't buy it cause Paul wasn't right impressed

think I read that same story, I know in B&Q you can't buy thinners unless your over 18, I'd never drink the stuff myself mind.

Our 24 year old daughter got ID`d when buying a pack of 6 tea spoons - apparently because they are "cutlery like knives" !!!!!

assuming that the decorating set included, paper cutting knives or some form of glue.

Shops have problems now, everytime I buy alcohol in Asda or Tesco they ask me for ID, when I say "honest I am over 18" they say they need ID for Sasha (she is actually 28) I tell them that she in not buying the alcohol I am, and they say they have to check her age because I might be buying the alcohol for her.

I ask them if they are going to ask the family "over there" with the 5 year old kid if he is over 18 as they are buying alcohol and it could be for him.

Where do you draw the line with government legislation, it's not the shops fault it's EU and government regulations that are as usual going crazy

My daughter is 28, shops at the same supermarket opposite her work every day, yet has to carry her passport with her as she is asked for proof of age every time she tries to buy alcohol.

It is very infuriating and frustrating for customers but the stores are scared to death about trading standards dropping in and doing spot check. I have worked in retail for over 10yrs now and know that if I sold an age restricted item to someone under age or looks it without checking proof of age then I could get an on the spot fine along with a separate fine for the store in itself. I can't afford that! This would be accompanied with a lengthy investigation on the store by the company as well as trading standards and also the staff who sold the item. Also the store could have it's license revoked for ever. It's a lot more involved than that I know. Stores just don't want that to deal with and tbh I don't blame them. In our store we all have to wear badges stating if you look under 25, ID with proof of age will be checked. The till's prompt us on what is an age restricted item when scanned.

That said, I can't see a decorators kit causing an age restricted issue. All depends on what it consisted of.

I thought the legal age for purchasing alcohol in the UK was 18. Or is that just drinking it?

I'd love to be id'd at the supermarket as we usually have £100 worth of shopping going through the till and I always leave the booze till last. I'd leave the entire lot where it was and walk out.

Not long ago i was behind a bloke at the till at asda who turned out to be 82 years young

I found this out when the girl serving him with vodka asked for ID

I thought and he did too that she was joking

She wasn't xx

I wonder why no-one asks for ID when you get your fags and booze delivered with your home shopping?

Stores have thier hands tied it is government legislation that is making them paranoid.

I still say that if they won't serve me alcohol without ID because I am with Sasha and may give it to her (she is actually 28 but looks younger) then they should not serve families who have 5 year olds with them what's the difference, under age is under age, in France youngsters have wine at most meals, who is to say the family at the till is not of the same thought pattern. Who qualified a check out assistant to decide what I might do compared with what another family might do with the alcohol.

That's because your sheer beauty knocks them for six and they simply forget.

There was a story a while ago. A woman and her daughter were shopping and the mum wasnt quite tall enough for the top shelf to reach the Vodka (or similar) .The daughter, being taller (and 24) reached the bottle ok . when they got to the tills, the mum was asked for ID for her daughter as she had got the bottle down. as she didnt and nor did her daughter , they were refused the alcohol..I think they left a weeks worth of shopping on the belt too....
