Anyone else watching this ? One lady thinks she shouldn't pay the bedroom tax a she has a poltergeist in one of her spare rooms. What I don't like is the makers pick some vulnerable people to film and seem to get a kick out of making them look bad.

is she claiming tax credits for it too?

on a serious note I hardly ever watch TV and when I do it tends to be something a little or stimulating that this kind of thing

I haven't seen this programme but I will watch it on catch up. I am strangely fascinated by this kind of programme.

Of course its quite obvious that the media are feeding us these programmes to stir up hatred for those who are on benefits. We don't seem to have programmes on politicians who claim ridiculous amounts as 'expenses'.

To be honest there is so much drivel on TV these days masquerading as documentaries it is difficult to find anything genuinely stimulating to watch.

There is no such thing as a bedroom tax. Those who use benefits to pay their rent who choose to live in a place that has more space than they need don't get extra benefits to pay for it is all.

For it to be a tax then it would need to get paid to the government.

What frustrated me watching it was that, one participant clearly had issues with alcohol. That was part of the reason he was behind on rent as that's where lots of his money went. The makers of the programme skew it so it looks like he just watches TV drinking cider - which he does. However he'd given up work to care for his parents who had died in that house. It had clearly affected him and he had turned to drink. He wasn't exactly having a ball. There is always a story behind the story.

And it was originally brought in by labour, but only for people in private rented accommodation.. the Tories extended to include council housing as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the next term if office it is not further extended to include owned and not just tenanted properties.

I get a housing benefit top up as I'm a student and I completely understand why I'm not allowed to expect the state to pay for a property bigger than I need. My flat is just big enough for my kids and I.

However cutting benefits to those who've been in properties they've been living in for years and where no suitable alternative has been offered is wrong. The restrictions should have applied to new tenancies only.

I watched the show and found it disgusting. As you say, one man had alcoholism and probable mental health issues. He needs help not judgement.

Yeah, because everyone gets a choice to what council house they are given don't they? There are not enough smaller dwellings, that is the problem. You can't use just the whip, you have to use a carrot as well.
