"Oh that's so sad although you have to ask.... even if you prolonged her life for another year, what would the quality of that life have been? Would she have been happy 'hanging on' and would you have been able to bare the waiting? Big hugs coming from me but I think you probably have made the right decision xxx" yes, you certainly did. better to go now peacefully than prolong her pain. what you did was out of consideration for her needs, not yours xx

"I'm just back from the Vet, having made the choice to put my pet, loyal to the end down. The only reason for doing this was because she had RENAL problems and I thought it's the right thing to do. My vet said with the advancement of drugs, we could prolong her life for a further year! I'm very upset now, but feel I've done the right thing by curtailing her life, instead of prolonging it for my benefit. Did I make the right choice? A very upset Paddy xx " How very brave and unselfish of you - yes, you did do the right thing xxx

"Faced the same dilemma a few years back with my Collie. It looked at me as the injection went in his leg and his eyes said it all. He looked so sad. I felt a right bastard. Never again. " I had to do the same with our cat! She had feline aids (nick name) and we were told that it was necessary. Like you I feel bad! and have said never again.. I was speaking to someone from the Cats Protection League a few weeks ago and she told me that it is not necessary to put them down for that as they can live another five years with no symptoms other than a light appetite.. I feel even worse now! To the OP.. You have to make that decision based on your evaluation, but I'll wager that you will feel like Wishy and I for a while yet... Not a nice club to join, eh?
