I'm getting tired of the Americanisation of our culture, black Friday is just one more nail in the coffin of our way of life... What's next? An embargoe on the use of the letter u?

Well the shopping centre I work has just turned to chaos!!!

600+ all queuing until it hit midnight, then they all stampede'd the doors.

A few now gone hospital, 4 arrested, 12 police officers now on site to assist (when they should be out patrolling and dealing with more important calls)

Tesco only had one security officer on duty to keep order in store.

Whole things a joke!!!!

Amazes me how stupid people get just for a sale!!!

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Shops know what chaos this causes in the US and now bring it here without a single care for the health and safety of consumers. Profit rules all.

And what does it say about our grasping materialistic society. A 'Black' day indeed.

There was a survey the other day that said 1 in 6 English people celebrate thanks giving, it's bizarre our Americanisms are creeping in to our culture

We are the 51st state! It's all a marketing ploy anyway so suckers fall for it. If you work in retail...you know the drill.

It just makes me so sad for the British culture, Halloween et al. My daughter tried to rationalise that thanksgiving is our celebration as the pilgrims were british...

"If it means we get stuff a bit cheaper then am all for it "

But we don't really. They ramp up the prices weeks before, to offset the cost in the sales. They still make the money, they just have huge differences throughought the year in turnover, profits and cash flow. Bit silly when you think about it. If I ran a business,I would much prefer a steady trade. Makes financial planning easier, and you don't get any shocks.

It's a pain in the arse. The sheeple that are all queueing on the roads to get to supermarkets and retail parks are causing mayhem on the roads, and for what? Something the have been conned into believing is a good deal.

Fuck all that shit, think I'll sit with me feet up and laugh my tits off at the fools appearing on the news rushing stores and fighting over crappy tellys

It should be banned. If they hype leads to personal injury, then safety concerns should rule them as being dangerous.

A total commercialisation for retailers to make a guise of consumer benefit, when in fact - it is all for profit, future profits and free publicity.

Grotesque, and I would gladly sign a petition against it.

No, I'm all for sales but there's to be a better way of going about it than causing mayhem and injury...........

Sales are sales.

Cheaper goods before Xmas? Why not?

If you don't want to go shopping today it's hardly as if it's not been advertised! Plus I've had a zillion emails offering discounts.

Doesn't bother me at all.

Aimed at dirty. Not you.

We have had sales day madness in this country for decades. It isn't new. Peoples behaviour had just got worse. That isn't the fault of the shops. Even Tesco!

Yeah I know, the 6th post down is mine saying how it reminded me of Boxing Day sales, the door opens and people are squeezing through before the doors have fully opened.

I've done black Friday in the USA and it's manic. I don't mind shopping online for some bargains from there though from this side of the ocean.

Anyone got any tips on some good deals?

It's a sale, same as any other, like i said in a previous thread, there are no crazy american style price drops, just a few quid off things. It's been over hyped and the stupid joe public have bought into it hook line and so forth, it's never gonna be like the US black friday.....if there's one thing we do better than the yanks, it's mundane n shitty ppffffttt

And this is how the world ends, not with a bang but with a sale...

Its totally ridiculous how people behave in those situations, security should step in and give them a sin bin time out, throwing an elbow? That'll be 10 mins in the penalty box ... Although that's also an american sporting practise. Gah! I can't win!!
