Why is it plural for panties but not plural for bra? Lol

Bra is short for brassiere. Plural of which is brassieres. Although plural of bra is just bras.

I know that but when we talk about it being on a person then why do we say panties as the plural even it's one on one person but yet we use bra as a singular I know looking at this confusingly but hey its dunno whst time in the morning I'm a bit crazy at this time haha

Yeh I don't really like panties either I prefer to use knickers lol but I mentioned about panties as that's all I could think of at that time in the morning haha

Most of. Certainly my ex's family are from Abbey Hey, Gorton, Droylsden, that side of town and it's common here in Stalybridge/ Mossley/Saddleworth too.

In Ireland pants were trousers and trousers were slacks.

We always called ladies underwear knickers....never panties.

I would normally use kecks for trousers (god this is going to get confusing ) but could use it for undies as well

It's plural for knickers, or panties, or pantaloons because they originally came as a pair of two halves - one to fit each leg, with a gap between so that ladies could pee without having to remove acres of Victorian underskirts....

I think it maybe as stated above, another americanism creeping in, but its certainly far from wide spread, even in a few of them areas you mentioned ive never heard it, america can keep it lol.
