I used to love watching Joe Jordan, and not forgetting Gordon McQueen. Between them they scared the shit out of the opposition at corners. Also from the same team was Martin Buchan, he didn't really get the "hard man" reputation because he was also blessed with skill and perfect timing. But he was as tough as old boots, just ask Kenny Dalgliesh.

I remember going to see Liverpool in the mid 70's and the chant was always "Jimmy's going to get ya!" as he came on...

You are talking about the modern game, many of the names mentioned on this thread are from the 60's, 70's and 80's before all this play-acting up to the ref bullshit creeped into the game. I am a football fan but i don't like all this rolling around on the floor lark like they've been shot, has ruined the modern game.

Try Grainthorpe Thomas, rode 2 weeks of the tour De France with a fractured pelvis, pascal Simon rode several stages of the tour with a broken collar bone. Or more closer to home Shane Sutton broke his collar bone coming off his bike at the bottom of crank hill, then rode to the finish line with a broken collar bone. They are hard men.

You could perhaps remember tommy for being a hard man but In between he could put on a entertaining game of football for the fans when he wanted to If he was,nt drawn Into confrontation with The opposition still happens today Really with todays players some things Never change the ref,s are to keen now Days to let things go by, It makes a Pleasant change for the ref to let them play sometimes only Interviening When he should.
