I wonder what's going to happen when the Spanish start sending al our OAPs back from the Costa del Sol, etc - all of a sudden we'll be swamped with elderly Brits coming home, overwhelming our NHS, etc. How do we keep them out? perhaps compulsory euthanasia at Dover?

I'm just watching a news item about tomorrows bi-election.

I think Mark Reckless has shot himself in the foot by stating that any EU migrants would be deported if Britain leaves the EU.

Whilst I agree that immigration needs to be tackled, I disagree with the notion of kicking out anyone who is here legitimately.

But of a silly thing to say, being as it was labour who encouraged immigration in the first place along with a whole host of female and family friendly policies.

UKIP has more members called Dave than females, let alone the male to female ratio! I wonder why?!

Most of the time when you have cheap labour it is putting other people out of work which mean more people are claiming benefit its a vicious circle

Why can people come and work in this country and claim child benefit for children back in their country .

not saying it is any better... just saying that if you are going to pick on one set of people.... then at least be consistant across the board.....

He said, 'if we sent anyone not white 'back home' like the fascists want, then we'd all be dead in a year, because that's a lot of doctors and nurses.' He may have been exaggerating, but there was a lot in it.

as I recall most of them jacked it within a week, some openly said the work was too hard..

the eastern Europeans just cracked on with it..

"They were to lazy to do it "

to be fair I think 99% of folk would buckle after 2 days of farm labouring .... 16 hour days, 7 days a week in all weathers, muck and filth..... atrocious conditions...... minimum wage or piece work(where the price per unit is reduced each time you hit your targets) and living in a freezing caravan or sharing a freezing barn with 40 other people, 1 toilet and no privcay .... it's pretty grueling

whenever anyone says to me "i've worked hard to get what i've got" it makes me smirk.

"

To that point I ask you, what are these items that your buying that you know cost less because of immigration. Also what are the new skills they bring?.

Hotel rooms

Food in restaurants

Airfares

Anything ever held in a warehouse or transported by road/rail/air

Anything from a farm

Anything made in a UK factory

Very grateful to the incredible foreign professors at my uni and to the Ghanaian doctor who delivered my daughter. Their skills are invaluable here. "

.

So anything ever held in a warehouse is cheaper because of immigration and a doctor who delivered a baby is a new skill!.

1 the ethnicity or nationality of worker in a factory does not make things cheaper, that's governed by labour price and last time I looked we don't have one rate for British one rate for foreign nationals.

2 midwifery is an age old profession going back 2000+ years.

Yes because the immigrants work harder for less money, and in my experience in the hospitality industry, don't phone in sick as much.

John Major decided he didn't like us .... he called us "medieval brigands" and introduced a huge number of laws .... many of which prevented us from travelling from area to area following the seasonal farm work ...... the agricultural industry complained and lobbied the government and the then government decided to start a scheme whereby foreign students (mainly from eastern europe and africa) who had done well in their exams at the universities of their own countries, were allowed to come to the UK to pick seasonal fruit and veg .... the rates for piece work dropped to a quarter and has remained the same to this day

I just wondered as your post made it sounds that indigenous people of Britain were incapable of picking fruit and that if we didn't have eastern Europeans ,all the fruit would just remain, unpicked.

I'm guessing before them, it was some other poor shmuck from Ireland. And before them we had to do it ourselves.

Working class Brits like me who've since decided we don't want a manual job, we want to go to uni and have careers.

When was the last time you heard a kid saying 'when I grow up I want to work on a farm'. Now that British kid, regardless of background is saying 'I want to be a lawyer/journalist/entrepreneur' or similar and now more than ever the opportunities are there.

I didn't say that as the sentence beginning 'now clearly...' states.

think it would be fair to say that if all the none indigenous fruit and veg pickers left the UK now there would be an impact on that industry..

as to how long that would take and to what extent is not something I have any data on, but it will be out there..

.No you hit it bang on.

It's got fuck all to do with somebody doing something better, and it's got nothing to do with nationalism or race and the apparent myth that we wouldn't do the job.

It's just what business wants because it's easier.

It's easier to nick someone else's trained staff than train your own, it's easier to bullshit some Romanian on the benefits of sleeping 40 in a shed and working 18hr days.

And it's easier for governments to pull your lots pants down, while your busy swapping bollocks about which nationality can pick Strawberry's best.

I don't believe ukip or any party want to kick anybody out, that is part of the hysterical nonsense that is actually helping ukip.

"

this is a transcript of what mark reckless actually said...

Q: ‘What would happen Mark Reckless if we left the European Union. What would happen for instance to the Polish plumber who lives in Rochester. Would he be able to stay, would he have to go back?’

Reckless: ‘Well, I think in the near term we’d have to have a transitional period, and I think we should probably allow people who are currently here to have a work permit at least for a fixed period.’

Q: ‘Forgive me, if there’s a Polish plumber who for instance has got a house, got a family, got kids at a local school, are you going to deport him and his family?’

Reckless: ‘I think people who have been here a long time and integrated in that way I think we’d want to look sympathetically at. But what we’d want to do is new people coming in [interrupted by laughs from the crowd]…what we’d want to do is to look at new people coming in and apply a consistent, Australian-style point system and the same to people coming from Europe as we do to those coming from say the Commonwealth, from Australia, Africa, India, the Caribbean. We shouldn’t have a discriminatory system which favours Europeans against people from the outside.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said there. Much of it seems like basic common sense to me. What do you take issue with?

Fact is the current levels of immigration in the uk are too high, schools and hospitals and other public services are creaking under the strain of numbers, yes some immigration is needed but it needs to be controlled and much lower numbers allowed in.

An australian style points based system is what we need so we can control the numbers and let those in whose skills we need. The current Open door and let everybody in is really not working.

It is there for everyone to read and see, no argument, however, because one person says it does not make it policy. I've read enough of your posts to know that you know that!! How often do politicians of any party disagree and argue against their own parties policies? You know it is very often!

You also know that the ukip resolve was stiffened by the outrageous assertions that people were making about totally fictitious ukip policies during the euro elections. Unless people start to take them seriously and argue against their real policies (available on their website) they will continue to grow in support. Even Bojo and milliband have seemingly adopted ukip policy on immigration because the bandwagon was not challenged!

The Labour Party took around 28 years from getting their first MP to forming their first coalition government. I believe ukip will beat that record if people don't stop all this hysterical nonsense and actually take them on!

Yes i've said it before on other threads and i'll say it again here, i'd like to see an australian style points based immigration system in this country. If you want to let everyone in and let them all settle here what are your plans to deal with the crisis in the Nhs and schools and other public services struggling under the strain of weight of numbers and demand increasing on those services?

Would you increase taxes to prop up those services then, build more schools, more roads, more hospitals etc, because that is what will be needed with an open door.

UKIP does'nt want to stop all immigration, some immigration will still be needed to fill gaps in the skills we need to import, if you are suggesting UKIP will stop all immigration then you are talking nonsense.

The issue for this country is not immigration, it is the rate of population growth that has not been matched by an appropriate investment in infrastructure.

Totally agree with this. UKIP are riding this immigration argument which seems to get people going but some of their other policies are truly abhorrent.

Social housing priority for those whose grandparents and parents were local?! This is a BNP policy and blatantly discriminates against the British born children of immigrants.

Legalisation of handguns?! I think this more than any other policy would be the reason I'll leave if they're ever in power. Have they seen how many kids get shot in America each year?! Many accidentally.

So if under a UKIP government if the immigrants don't want to leave we can threaten to shoot them until they do!?

Just out of interest, where would you go if handguns were made legal? There are very few countries where they're currently illegal to own privately under any circumstances - China and South Korea come to mind. Other shitholes are available

UKIP have only grown to what they currently are because successive governement's have ignored having a adult debate with the voters about immigration. Ignore a problem that millions of voters are concerned about drives people to react to vote UKIP and see them as a solution.

normally that would be a smart alec comment.....

however......

in this case he actually missed a vital vote on the Budget because he was d*unk in the house of commons bar.... too d*unk to vote!

ukip may win in Rochester then again they may not, but the closer to the election the more the spotlight will be on them and at the moment some of them seem not be singing from the same hymn sheet and the media will relish that..

there was as its pmq's day a 'panel' from the main 3 plus a ukip mep on 5live this morning and the ukip guy quite frankly came across as a bit all over the place on the issue's ..

yes one could make the point that the others may well have had more experience indeed media training and therefore more smooth in their delivery but when the ukip guy said 'you shut up' to one of the other panellists it just came across as poor..

we shall see..

"You couldn't make this up!!

Before that he was a Tory MP, named Reckless.

famous for being a d*unk too by all accounts in the newspapers

Will all those who have never had a drink or two too many, please leave the room.

Sits watches smiles

normally that would be a smart alec comment.....

however......

in this case he actually missed a vital vote on the Budget because he was d*unk in the house of commons bar.... too d*unk to vote!

I'll almost forgive the fact that during that episode that he was also repremanded for being abusive to other mp's as well

so would you like to call it "d*unk whilst being on the job"..... and ask it again????"

I don't think Mark Reckless was arrested though, Eric Joyce the Labour MP for falkirk was arrested for being d*unk and disorderly and assault, brawling in the house of commons bar.

"Hilda Lesways - I would like to know should i fuck off back home ???

Can you tell me where my home is please !!!

If you will allow me, I will answer that question, and as most of the people on here know I'm a UKIP member

The answer is HERE, you were born here.

Sits watches and smiles

that may be the response from farage... but that wan't the answer given by reckless......

so who do we listen to??? and thats half the problem with ukip where it can look as if you are talking out of both sides of your face to appease everyone....

anyway... was much more interested to hear hilda's answer..... because i reckon most ukip voters would likely go with that she was inferring, than what you are....

Fabio

Everyone knows I don't tell lies

After tomorrow it will be 2, then I will only need another 4 in May. And you will be sponsoring my ass on that 52 mile bike ride "

Could be 4 before the general election, rumours are rife that there will be at least 2 more defections to UKIP if Reckless wins this by-election. The bookies are already paying out on bets that Reckless will win so i'm looking forward to more defections now.

It is amazing how UKIP have put the cat amongst the pigeons. For a party most had not heard of a few years back, they are certainly getting airtime now.

Was'nt a Labour MP arrested for being d*unk and brawling in the house of commons bar in 2013?

The falkirk Labour MP called Eric Joyce, a lot of MPs drink but it seems this Labour one likes to brawl when hes had a drink aswel. "

he is one of a number of d*unks at westminster doubtless to say, but it doesn't alter the notoriety he has for being a d*unk who would rather be a barfly than go to vote on important issues

.

I suggest you read more if you've spent a month thinking about fascism and you think she's fascist.

To be honest I'm starting to think people Bandar words around they've read in a newspaper, your a fascist, your a communist, what because they disagree with your train of thought.

As technical definition of fascism it doesn't require someone to be racist, in fact most modern day corporations fit the definition better than ukip members.

"Well they help economy for a start, they bring new skills

Cheap labour as well.

Which enables the cheap prices for hotels, food and consumer products which you undoubtedly enjoy.

Well if we have to pay more we have to pay more don't we.

Yes prices go up, people buy less and the economy slows. Businesses fail or downsize, job losses, even less spending......

Basic economics. "

I question this. Basic, Keynesian economics shows that lower wages causes deflation. In a time where we are struggling, deflation is a bad thing. We need inflationary measures to offset the public spending cutbacks which are themselves deflationary.

Historically, economies that indulge in protectionism thrive in tough economic times. America did under Clinton in the nineties, Australia has done so in the last few years, since 2008, while much of the rest of the world struggled.

Deflation leads to recession. The Government has recently warned the economy here and in Europe is on the verge of further recession.

Being part of a united Europe has caused many problems for many countries. It continues to do so. A single European currency has always been a fundamentally flawed idea, as, I would suggest, is the idea of a single market.

Immigration may bring certain skills, but surely this is most beneficial when a points system is used, thereby ensuring that only certain people, with needed skills, to avoid skills shortages and bottlenecks, are allowed entry to Britain?

We can stop entry to Britain for a chat up artist but not a convicted killer who then proceeds to murder a schoolgirl whilst here? Madness.

It was suggested above that we don't need UKIP to have politicians sort of immigration. The main parties have had years to address the issue and have failed to do do. Hence many are swayed when someone like Farage comes along.

I have doubts over UKIP but welcome any diversity, left or right wing and even liberal, that makes for a more interesting political spectrum. It gets people talking and thinking, which can only be good.

So much bollocks talked here!

D*unk mp's? Charles Kennedy ? ?!! Only the leader of an opposition party then

I'm English as far back as 250 years (aunty has done out family tree, not a single person born outside England we can find) so as I'm safe I think I can speak without prejudice? I grew up next to a Polish family, my mates in my street had a Jamaican mother n father, an Irish mother and a Scottish father. So I'd of not grown up knowing any of these people? One of my very best mates only lives where I do as he moved from miles away to be with a girl from my town, her dad is Polish! Oh by the way he worked in the pits for 40+ years guess he was nicking English jobs!!!

The most worrying thing is Reckless was a Tory just a short while back, and they rule the country, no wonder there are racism discussions every week on fab!!! The guy is an upper class pompous self righteous fool, just like the leader of the country
