Washing machine engineers - advice please

I've just taken a wash out and a pair of my work trousers were stuck. I thought they'd got caught behind the drum but when I looked they were actually stuck to the inside of the drum. They're just the usual polyester/viscose/elastane mix cheapish work trousers but it appears they had melted to the inside of the drum. I've ended up cutting them out and the hole is melted round the edges!!

Any ideas why this happened and will it be safe to use the machine still?

Probably a thermostat issue. It could possibly lead to damage of other parts of the machine. Get an engineer out to have a look (£50-£100) or replace it.

Try a litre of vinegar in a 60 half load empty cycle, thermostat might be covered in limescale.
